As you may have gathered, this is a poetry competition! Specifically, an event focused on a particular style of poetry: free verse.
Some of you may be wondering, what exactly is free verse? Here is what the Poetry Foundation has to say on the matter:
However, as this is the 200 M Freestyle, you will have to write a poem consisting of at least 200 words, but no more than 220. Please list your word count at the bottom of your entry.Poetry Foundation wrote:Nonmetrical, nonrhyming lines that closely follow the natural rhythms of speech. A regular pattern of sound or rhythm may emerge in free-verse lines, but the poet does not adhere to a metrical plan in their composition.

If you so happen to participate, you will receive an Olympian title. That being said, if your poem is one of the top three you could receive a Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal winner title instead. Medals will be applied to your team's overall count and could mean the difference between victory and defeat.
