The Premise.
Across the night sky falls a jagged and gnarled sphere of white hot space rock, a streak of brilliant resplendence in the twilight. It’s crash across the mountain’s peak causes the world to rumble and all manner of man and beast to tremble in fear that the end is near. Night ebbs away, leaving behind not the end of the world, but the start of a grand journey. Dawn came and went but the light didn't leave us for more than a day, the brilliant glow of the impact crater burned across the western horizon.

This falling star is a symbol of change. Literal change, and greater wealth seeing as well as the ore you can mine from this space rock would set you, your children and your children’s children for life. Meteor mining is nothing new and every man, woman and child be they fueled by greed, need or a thirst for adventure will be racing to make a new life and a name for themselves. The Impact was just the starting pistol setting things in motion.

The Primer.
Altair Realized was originally pitched as a DnD campaign, but a wish to return to forum roleplay has seen it re-envisioned as a brand new setting with new threats and new scenery to explore. Nevertheless it holds to its roots by following the old adventurer’s journey through a fantasy world. We’ll be starting with the old trope of ‘you meet in a tavern’ in a land of vast expanses of open wilderness, high mountains and ancient ruins, but quickly expanding on, surpassing and usurping expectations.
We’ll hold to some hard and fast rules of fantasy fiction such as ‘mages are glass cannons’ and the like, but will try to avoid enforcing undesirable tropes that do nothing but render enjoyment non-existent, our only goal is to keep a balance of sorts and to avoid a roleplay where players feel a need to play a mage, in order to keep up with their companions[in that way diverting from DnD].

The Task Ahead.
You play an adventurer, a scholar or just some person in need of some quick income seeking to profit off the fall of a meteor nearby. In your way are the wilderness, the monsters of the wilds and others seeking to claim the rock for themselves. You’ll all be working under the influence of the Prometheus Mining Company, laying claim to the meteor on their behalf, and for this the price is meteo-right~

I think dice would be fun! Adds a nice realism to it. Although, perhaps have them play a less important part than they do in DnD?

In relation to dice, I was personally thinking of a more simplified, d20 roll. No mods or anything, like a simple d20 tabletop. Kind of like anime campaign if anyone has played or watched that.

Did you have a particular type of tech in mind that you'd like to pursue? I was thinking a more traditional fantasy setting as far as tech goes. General siege engineering, roman level quality of stuff, with public sewers and aqueducts, roads expanding out to certain areas and so forth. I was considering basic black powder level stuff, if we saw guns or anything the furthest I'd be willing to go for pure tech is flintlock. Magic pistols and likes would be fine, but we're not going to be starting with something like a revolver or anything near that level of tech. Similarly, no real electricity other than what is made with magic, so no light bulbs and so on, mostly gas lanterns and torches. You could see minor magitech things, but anything powerfully magical would take time, effort and money, so a bunch of wet behind the ears start ups looking to make money aren't going to be using any of it out the gate.

So; Pad and I are working on the OOC, and intending to get it ready and posted before day's end.

We've been reading the RP Chat discord and seeing many people mentioning character classes and the like, probably because we used terms like 'mage' and brought up DnD in our initial post...

However classes weren't something we were going to fully embrace, originally.

That said they work wonders for classifying what people can do...

So we've got a question, while we're working on the CS layout.

How would you like classes to be handled?

1. Ditch classes entirely and just make it so people who use spells are a bit more fragile, while fighting type folks are healthier but can't dish out as much insanity.
2. Lean into it and just embrace he old-school class systems of DnD, Pathfinder and other common RPGs.
3. Leave classes open to interpretation; where your 'class' is a title or defining trait about your character unique to them, as in some narrative RPGs; I.E.; Arcane Scholar, Sword Saint of the Southlands, Taekwando Weretiger, Big Bad Evil Guy's Right Hand Man and the like.

I'm more for 1 or 3, mostly because you know how much I like being a special snowflake and dislike other people telling me "your character shouldn't do that because you're (x) class."
