We all have that little voice in the back of our mind trying to break us down with dangerous and destructive intrusive thoughts.

The thirty seven families of the Littleton Housing Community, like so many before them, didn't survive long once the creatures speaking those thoughts realized they could see them.

Multiple wounds were on the large, avian creature's body as he lay in the middle of the road, breathing raggedly.
The woman knelt, her friend cradled against her chest, rocking back and forth, tears streaming down her face as she sobbed softly.

He held it off for as long as he could, until his muscles screamed and burned, his body shaking uncontrollably.
When he let go, he watched in horror as teeth slid in to the soft flesh of his face with fangs too large for the mouth they resided in.

He can feel the pain surging throughout his entire body, not long before the worms burst through his skin at full force, sending agony throughout his nerves.

The worms scatter, slowly gathering and forming into a small and slithering flesh-colored mass before heading to its next victim, then it enters its host through where it can enter.

To put my child's fears to rest, I make a big show of checking the closet.
To find my child who says, "There's something in my bed, Daddy".

Her heart was pounding, her fingers flying across the keyboard as her eyes glanced at the clock; time was ticking by. Her e-mail contained her final paper that was worth 75% of her grade, and just as she hit save her computer crashed destroying all of her hard, last-minute work.

Pain is all I feel as I try to free myself from the binds that burn me, burn me so very much, me and all the others trapped in this hellish realm.

But I believe, I have to, that we will set ourselves free, we will, and when we do, we shall finish what we have started- devour the living, scorch the earth and poison the air.

Fantastic work, everyone. Thank you all for sending in your scariest two-line stories—they each showcased a different sort of spooky spirit that made this judging difficult. That being said, a decision has been made.

In third place, proving horror does not necessitate a large word count:
BrookeDi
In second place, showing that two lines can nearly be too scary:
Darkblade
And in first place, with a story that is as terrifying as it is concise:
GamerScribe

Congratulations to all of our winners!
