The RPGC Film Society (Young Frankenstein)

Post by Rick » Sat Jun 03, 2017 12:37 pm

Hello and welcome to the RPGC Film Society!

I am Rick, master of ceremonies for the society, and I shall be your guide to our grand and storied institution, let us begin.
The RPGC film society was started when a rather dashing maverick simply known as the Wolf dared to ask if film and film history had to be placed on the back burner to make way for modern day Hollywood blockbusters. Nay! he declared, every man, woman, and dog should have the right to experience film in a much deeper level than just "Wow, explosions and stuff," we should discuss these stories of humanity and the human condition as they were meant to; As high art.

The Wolf's goal in starting the society was to create a place where people from different walks of life could come and watch films together and then discuss them in a much deeper lever. From cinematography techniques, editing styles, film pacing, actor performances, themes, and most importantly, how they made us feel.

So, I extend to you an invitation into our historic society so that we may be graced with your very own unique way of looking at things and expanding all of our own perception as to what films can be!

.......................................

Okay, now that i'm done with that, Let me explain what we will be doing here.

Weekly, or more probably, bi-weekly I will post a film here on the first comment that we will all watch and then discuss for a set amount of time, then rinse and repeat.

As you might have noticed I am a rather pretentious snob when it comes to films so in an attempt to keep are members engaged we will sometimes vote and take suggestions on films we want the group to watch, cause one of the important things about loving films is sharing that love with other people.

You don't have to participate every single time, you can come and go as you please. This is supposed to be fun, not anxiety inducing.

Film to watch:

For our second film we will be watching:

Young Frankenstein

Which can be found on Netflix

Alright then, next Monday should have been plenty of time for people to check out the film, so i'll start figuring out some topics for discussion just to get things rolling.

You have one more week people!

In case people need more time and want to be part of the discussion let me know, i'll extend the dead line if I need to.

Okay, this first run was a bit....empty but I got Nay to check out a silent film so I consider that a win.

Now I have to decide on the next movie, if you guys have any suggestions let me know.

Oh, sorry. I missed the club thread and just sort of posted in the discussion. Bit of a faux pas, I admit. I'm a film buff, but only in certain selected genres. It's kind of late to ask if I can join, as I sort of invited myself, like an ass. ><; But I do love analyzing any fiction work of art or of mindless fun. So if I could join, I promise to be a contributing member...and...if not, let me know and I'll delete my comments in the other topic.

It is growing closer to Halloween. Perhaps a new or old classic horror? But then, I admit a bias...and not everyone is geared for those.
What is everyone's favorite genre of movie, anyway?

I do not know what that movie is...but I feel personally threatened by it.

Looking at your Sig and Avy set, though, makes me want to rewatch a Lynch film like...Lost Highways, Eraserhead or Blue Velvet. Prolly one of my favorite, if not absolute favorite director of all time.

*edit*Not Kyle MacLachlan, but David Lynch. Although, Kyle was in Blue Velvet. Pretty much played a younger Dale Cooper-type character, too.

I'm not sure I know enough about films in general to be able to make a suggestion that most of you won't have already seen! I'm definitely in regardless, though.

Similar to Sammy, I'm really not sure what I could recommend, particularly in terms of accessibility for people. Definitely interested for going forward though.

Alright, after reading over the suggestions (thanks for that, guys) the council of Ricks have decided to go somewhere in between the 2006 Superhero film ZOOM starring Tim Allen as the titular Zoom and a David Lynch film, and as much as I would like all of us to experience Eraserhead I think that one is best left for later.

So the film that was chosen was Young Frankenstein, Directed by Mel Brooks and written by both Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks.

This 1974 classic can be found on Netflix, both in the US and the UK, but if you don't have Netflix and are having trouble finding it send me a PM and i'll help you out.

I suppose two weeks is good enough before I start the discussion thread?
