Suggest a Show

Post by Sammy » Sat Jan 28, 2017 2:40 am

If the 'What are you watching?' threads tells us anything, it's that we have a LOT of TV show aficionados (it took me an embarrassing number of attempts to spell that correctly) SO it occurred to me that we could use this to help each other out.

If you're looking for something new to watch, post a brief blurb of either the kind of thing you're looking for or, if you have no idea, maybe just an idea of other shows you've enjoyed.

If you have something to suggest for one of these people, quote their post and give them any suggestions. Please try and make the suggestions relevant to what they've requested rather than just listing any shows under the sun that you like!

Shows I'm currently watching:
  • Supergirl
    The Flash
    Arrow
    Legends of Tomorrow
    Grimm
Gotham (Though I'm behind several episodes)
    Supernatural (Again, several episodes behind)
    The Crown
    A Series of Unfortunate Events
    Gilmore Girls
    Sense8
    The Magicians
    Vikings
    Lucifer
Blacklist (Since I've been watching it when it comes to Netflix I'm way behind on this)
Recent shows I've finished/are on break:
  • Frontier
    Medici: Masters of Venice
    The OA
    Westworld
    Black Mirror
So with that list in mind, suggestions?

Hannibal, if you appreciate beautiful cinematography and character psychology. This show is one of my all time favorites and seeing as you have a couple darker shows in that list, I highly recommend it.

Can't knock a bit of Mads Mikkelsen.

I watched the first episode of Beyond today, which is on Netflix. It's actually pretty good - solid enough plot to make me want to go back and watch more, which is sort of the point, after all. Some beautiful visual effects, too.

I must strongly suggest everyone take the time to watch Horace & Pete.

It will make you laugh, it will likely make you very uncomfortable at times (regularly), and hopefully leave you with a ton of things to dwell upon after each episode. Might not be for everyone but that's why I suggest everyone watch it.

As it turns out, the Beyond on Netflix is not the show Beyond, its a movie, and that was a very confusing hour and half I just spent because I didn't bother to check I just his play. Gonna borrow my friend's Amazon Prime so I can give the show a proper chance.

It's definitely not a movie on the UK Netflix, but this just prompted a serious moment of introspection where I had to ask myself if the show I've been watching is actually titled Beyond. It is. Panic over.

It's a shame you've gotta go to extra trouble to get it, though.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Arone Comprexu especially the second season: 2nd Gig which feels incredibly farseeing with the state of the world today with all the refugees. Really awesome animoo.

I feel like the point of this thread has kind of been ignored by some of you... haha. The idea is that people give you what they're looking for in a show, and we all make tailored suggestions. I want this to be about interaction and actually having to read and engage with other people's posts.

Few suggestions for you, all on Amazon Prime:
  • Goliath - Disgraced alcoholic and former super star lawyer takes on the big boys.
  • Animal Kingdon - A kid loses his mum to a heroine overdose and is forced to live with the family she's tried so hard to keep him from.
  • Sneaky Pete - Really hard to describe this one without ruining anything. Protagonist is a talented conman, it begins with him getting let out of prison. It's a bit like BBC's Hustle if you ever saw that.
P.S. Where are the suggestions for me, huuuuh?

White Collar - Con-artist helps the FBI catch white collar criminals.
Leverage - A bit Robin Hood-esque, a group of criminals use their unique talents to take on big corporations that are screwing over the little guy.
House of Cards American or British, take your pick, both are good.
