An Archive of Faces [Menagerie Character Archive]

Post by Shea » Mon Sep 04, 2017 2:43 pm

Dump your lonely, unused characters here if you intend to take part in A Menagerie of Faces. Even if you have a very rough idea of a character, just throw a character description (e.g. personality, history if you'd like, job, etc) and image or physical description in here. Please try and keep your characters all in the first post you make here; if you think you'll need more than that, you can make a second post directly after your first with [RESERVED] in the text box until you're ready to fill it with other characters.

SHEA'S CHARACTERS

MR SINCLAIR
Appearance:
Image
Gender: Male
Age: 48
Race: Unknown
Biography: An expert at knowing more about others than they do of him, Sinclair has never revealed any of his own personal details. All that is know by the occupants of Langley House is that he owns the establishment and lives somewhere off site.
Personality: TBA

RIZA
Appearance:
Image
Gender: Female
Age: 36
Race: Black Dog
Lore holds that Black Dogs, sometimes referred to as Hellhounds or Demon Dogs, are malevolent apparitions said to lead humans to their deaths. In truth, Black Dogs can be just as corporeal as every other earth walking beast of the world, though the association these creatures have with death and the afterlife isn’t far off - in fact, they could easily be considered a canine version of the Grim Reaper.

Traditionally, Black Dogs are servants of death, able to sniff out the dying (both supernatural and human), to consume their souls, which they would then carry to the afterlife. They have no master, per se, as death is not technically a single person or entity, and were not created nor forged.. they simply exist. None other than servants, they act on supernatural instinct to seek out their targets, and driven by these instincts are mindless, existing only for the single, never-ending purpose of fulfilling their duty. Black Dogs cannot be harmed, cannot age, but are as natural and as essential to the world as the sun is to the earth.

Black Dogs have existed for as long as death has been a factor in this world, though in recent decades their behaviour has altered dramatically, most likely due to society and the modernisation of the human world (despite the fact that they are technically not of this earth or this universe). Recently, some have even begun to grow consciousness, mimicking human ideals, forms and developing the ability to think for themselves - though the exact cause of such remarkable, seemingly impossible developments is unknown. Because of this, some have begun to integrate themselves into society, though self-awareness, especially self-awareness gained in this way, takes decades to accomplish.

As well as acting as reapers, Black Dogs also instigate deals in which death can be avoided, though this is only a recent development implemented around the 1940’s, and is used exclusively by the mortal, supernatural races. Otherworldly deals can be made by supernatural beings who wish to cheat death.. for a price, and Black Dogs not only carry out these deals, but act as enforcers when arrangements are not followed through with. These acts are considered illegal and a perversion of the natural force that is death.
-Undead blood, such as the blood of a vampire or shambling corpse, is extremely poisonous to a Black Dog when ingested.

-All Black Dogs are immortal, intangible and invisible at will, and cannot be harmed or interacted with by anything manmade or supernatural unless they so wish it. An infinite amount exist in the world, though they are not well known within the supernatural community due to the essential part they play in keeping the world in check. In this way, they could be considered more of a cosmic force than anything. However, in Riza’s case she is almost as vulnerable as the average household pet, having lost almost every quality that distinguishes her as a Hound. Only a small part of her original form still exists, hence her ability to shift into her original visage and retain a limited range of her abilities.

-Most flesh wounds can heal over the span of a few hours, though this depends on their severity.

-Potentially fatal wounds will cause Riza to revert back to her natural form (if she is in her human form at the time), where she will be forced to remain until she has recuperated. Whilst she is sick or injured she is unable to shift back into her human form.

-Has retained her shape-shifting ability, healing ability, superhuman strength, agility, senses and endurance.

Nationality: Swedish
Biography: Black Dogs are infinite, godly, and immortal. They exist to serve, and they fulfil their duties without error. They do not rest, and do not require it, though for all of their divinity and all of the influence they hold, it seems that even gods can fall. Riza is proof of that.

The specifics of the event are shady to Riza herself, which is understandable considering she had no real mind to remember it by. All she knows is that she must have come into contact with.. something, an unknown force, that she consumed - as was her duty - and then woke up human and naked in the snow somewhere in Sweden, where she experienced incredible, agonizing pain, at the same time aware of every sound, scent and emotion that one could experience at any given time. Her new senses overloaded, she collapsed in shock and was later found by the man who owned the surrounding farms. She could not speak, as she had never learned how, and utilising her new mind and body came slowly and with much effort. She had no memory of who or what she was, who or what she had been, where she was, or where she had been, but the old man took to teaching her the basics of life and living, having quickly caught on to the fact that she was unschooled in such things. Though she looked to be at least twenty years of age, he raised her like a child, and she stayed with him for the next eight years of her life.

It took her years to accommodate to the various aspects of mundane life, even as a near adult, as though she had learned how to survive as a human, she still struggled to understand the thoughts, mannerisms and actions of other people. Her mind now matured into that of a young woman, her thirst for answers drove her away from her new home. It was difficult letting go, but her father understood, and she travelled across the sea in search of her origins. Long story very short, her quest took her after many, many years, to Brooklyn, where a not inconsiderable amount of digging led her to discovering what she once was – or at least, what the evidence has led her to believe she once was. Here, she was also able to unlock a number of her latent powers.

Compelled by the same Yearning as many others in the town, Riza established herself at Langley in the café beneath the apartments, named Teal. Shrouded from the knowledge of ordinary humans, Teal serves as a place for supernaturals to congregate in safety, also doubling as an information broker and oddities shop where the magically inclined can purchase particular items, such as ingredients for spells, hexes or potions.

Personality: A calculating stare and cold demeanour would easily lead one to thinking of her as manipulative and mean. In truth, Riza is awkward and even rude at times, but unknowingly, easily missing social cues and the slight nuances of behaviour that are obvious to most. She somewhat lacks empathy, though this does in no way mean she cannot feel, and she is still learning how to both display her emotions correctly as well as understand the emotions of others. Humans and supernaturals alike are still somewhat unusual to her, though the trepidation she holds towards certain races stems more from lack of interaction than anything. As she is still missing a lot of information about life and the world, she often busies herself with reading up on world history, and familiarising herself with different aspects of the world’s races, cultures and events. She is also fascinated by the simpler things such as electricity, and has been known to overindulge on the things she never wanted or needed as a Dog, such as large meals, coffee, sweets and cigarettes.

Lives in: First Floor, Apartment 08 (Single, No pets)

SABIN TAO
Appearance:
Image
Gender: Female
Age: 24
Race: Human
Role: Herbalist, Con-artist, Jack-of-all-trades

Skills: Whilst living in deep space for the later portion of her life, Sabin was trained extensively in the art of subterfuge. Whilst on a job she may be required to change her face, personality, mannerisms and even habits, though due to her almost unlimited expertise and ability to adapt to any given situation, she considers the reworking of these skills as little more than child’s play. Because her role as the ‘mole’ requires her to be mostly on her own whilst on a job, she has a number of other talents to aid her, such as lock-picking, low to medium level security hacking and pick-pocketing. She can tell a lie better than anyone, and knows how to pick up on other people’s tells, and how to hide her own. When she isn’t off on her own.. business, she helps the Langley manage business transactions (legit ones, as well as the more crooked) and even cooks most nights. She has also been known to lend a hand to running odd jobs for Sinclair.

Though her skills of deception and misdirection are her most prevalent attributes, she is also a skilled fighter, having picked up a number of different techniques during her time in the outer rim planets – more specifically those with a more prevalent Chinese culture. Jobs that have fallen apart or put her life in danger have seemed to have little effect on her attitude, as she has managed to keep herself out of prison, and the bottom of the ocean, so far. She’s had only minor training with firearms, though she carries her pistol around as a backup, or in case trouble pops up unexpectedly in-between jobs.

Background:
An orphan at birth, Sabe’s wellbeing was transferred to one individual after another. Her mother had died whilst giving birth to her on the crop-moon known as Lilac, and her father, a member of the Alliance high military, had been killed on duty two years before she was conceived. Her family was scattered across the cosmos due to a previous, bitter feud, and those wanting to inherent an orphaned child were few and far between. For a while she called Alliance space home, though she was much too young to remember specific details – all she knows is that she was first given to a half-sister who ‘kept’ her for two years, but was forced to give her up due to her involvement in the black market, or some other illegal activity. The girl landed in an orphanage on a barren planet known as Pupri, where she stayed until she was thirteen.

From what it seemed, very little happened during the time she spent in the orphanage. From the outside she was seen as a quiet, well behaved girl, and caused little public fuss. She made few friends, lost many, and only really came into contact with the outside world when she got a job in one of the local factories. She was sheltered and protected by the people who owned the orphanage – too much, in fact, and it wasn’t until she reached her thirteenth birthday that the community finally discovered why. Somehow, corruption was exposed in the orphanage, and its ties to an underground smuggling ring. Further still was the discovery of other atrocities committed in the household – more specifically, the physical and sexual abuse of some of the children. In fear of being silenced for speaking out against her own abusers, Sabin kept silent during the legal proceedings, despite being prodded by the authorities for evidence. The owners were prosecuted swiftly and justly without her help, and she sealed that portion of her life away forever.

Moving on was difficult, extremely so, though hope blossomed when she was located by a long lost relative. The public outrage sparked by the orphanage conspiracy created news waves, and word reached even the most far away planets. Her aunt was exposed to this, and upon hearing the names of some of the children, she recognised Sabin’s last name as her own. After doing some digging the family tie was discovered and the girl was finally adopted. She inherited her last name, Tao, from her uncle, the husband of her aunt. He was a Chinese merchant, wealthy, kind, and fluent in English. The girl soon found that before her adoption, her new family had never known she existed. It seemed that her previous carers had located her aunt and discovered that she would be willing to adopt a child, but kept the information to themselves. It also seemed that, for whatever reason, the authorities had also failed to inform her aunt of the exact circumstance under which her sister had died, or that she ever had a child.

From the moment of her final adoption up until her eighteenth birthday, Sabin stayed with her family, soaking up influence from each cultural side of her life – both the oriental and the new age American. She became fluent in Mandarin and found peace in certain aspects of the life, such as meditation and tea making, though it soon became apparent that she would need to find work to make a living. Breaking away from her family, her uncle gave her ties to an old friend – someone not entirely legit.

She found a job working for the ‘good side of the Alliance’, though the term only really applied to the people that lived within the major cities, as she had nothing to do with the government or the military, and certainly wouldn’t have accepted work from them considering they were usually behind the conspiracies she worked towards exposing. The independent organisation that employed her was made of people like herself – people that wanted change, and to expose the criminal element of the Alliance. She was trained for two years before being released as a professional con-man, stealing and exposing secrets kept hidden by the government and those tied to it. Eventually she left the group after their actions became too eccentric, and she lost faith in their leader who became violent and unpredictable.

It is currently unknown by anyone as to how she came to call Earth home.

OREN COLLIER
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Image
Occupation: Waiter
History: For his twenty-first birthday, Owen’s friends took him out for a night on the town. Coming from a particularly wealthy family meant that he was required to pay for most of the journey, despite it being a gift, but it didn’t stop him from splurging on his pals, and a few hours later they were in Las Vegas. Things got off to a good start with a number of lucky runs at the tables and too much food and drink to consume, but too much lost money and three bottles of high price, cranberry flavoured vodka later, and they were ready to hit the streets. The motel they had booked in advance was about twenty minutes away, but with no designated driver or extra coin to hail another cab, Cooper, one of Owen’s elementary pals, elected himself chaperone of the night.

The remainder of the night is foggy, filled in only by recounts of his companions and police reports from the scene.

From what Owen can remember on his own, there was a lot of smashed glass and churning tires, and flashes of white. His friends have filled in the blanks as much as possible, and from what he’s been able to gather is that they were in a minor car wreck, supposedly from drunkenly joy riding through the town. It couldn’t have been an accident though, they said, as somehow the owner of the car was there, and before they barely had time to react he had stepped up to the driver’s side window and shot Cooper point blank in the chest. He had been saying something Owen couldn’t remember, but with his friend probably dead and the others either unconscious or dead in the confines of the back seat, Owen had then made a move to open the glove compartment when the man reached through the window and shot Owen in the head.

The bullet went cleanly through his skull but nicked a blood vessel along the way, and if it weren’t for the quick thinking of the officers on call he would have died from blood loss. After that, it took almost four months before he was able to form words and eat by himself, and another two before he was able to walk and talk coherently again. He gets fragments of the night, sometimes, and certain smells and sounds will sometimes set off a chain of memories. He still has trouble with certain things, and has bouts of forgetfulness and migraines, but he’s successfully found a job at Teal café where he spends most of his time.

Avril
:pinkbullet: Avril is a pint-sized 17 year old whose best friend is a spotted fawn named Minnie.

:pinkbullet: Avril has long blonde hair with blue-grey eyes and a sharp bony face. She has neon pink streaks in her hair and she always wears it loose and straightened.

:pinkbullet: She works part-time as an assistant combat instructor in a studio, but she spends most of her time travelling the multiverse.

:pinkbullet: She doesn't date.

:pinkbullet: Avril is stubborn, defensive and snappy. She's committed though, and values certain causes.

:pinkbullet: Avril is obsessed with deer, but only those with spots, and only does. She also loves the colour pink (in horrifying shades) and manga books.

:pinkbullet: She doesn't like most people on principle, and has no filter. At all.

August and Aspen Redbrook - The Enigmatic Brother & Sister Duo

NOTE: As of this time, nobody knows of their supernatural ability, although some suspicions may be held that something's off with them.
Never have the siblings been sighted together. In the middle of tasks, conversations, anything; one sibling has been known to abruptly become the other - with a different set of memories, thoughts, and traits. They most certainly are not the same person, but nobody knows where the other departs to when replaced...

Rumor has it the Redbrooks only share the same father and each have a different mother. When they met for the first time at their father's funeral (six years ago), they ceased to be separate entities. They have refused to meet other half-siblings they know to exist.

August is two years older than Aspen. He is 24, and she is 22. They both share the same shade of auburn-chestnut hair, and have their father's golden off-hazel eyes. August is tall and broad at six foot solid, in excellent physical shape, and had plans to join law enforcement before the unfortunate event that bound him to his sister. Aspen stands at five foot five and has a slim physique with greater dexterity than her brother. Her plans to become an artist have been unaffected.

AGNES WICK
Appearance:
Image
About 6ft tall, muscular

Age: between 100-125 years old; she lost count

Species: Witch

Personality: As a witch, Agnes is a bit selfish. She's blunt, doesn't get sarcasm and social interaction. Witches aren't known to be the most compassionate of species, she was taught to value how you fight more than how nice you are to your neighbor. A ruthless fighter, she has no moral compass. She's resourceful and cunning, her brain always working a million miles a second to find a way out of the room. Ang believes in living a minimalist lifestyle and that overindulging is weak. She doesn't trust easily but never learned to look past lies. Although intelligent and able to put two and two together, it is easy to manipulate her if you're good enough at it.

Fears: being weak and powerless

Dream: To find her purpose in this world

Dislikes: Slackers, complaining, over indulgence

Likes: Blood, fighting, and challenges

History Once the leader of a powerful witch clan, once the most infamous fighters of her generation, why would she ever leave? Awoken from a dream, Anges was overcome with an itch in the back of her mind. A yearn. As the days went by, the itch became stronger. And she started to question. Is this life? Do I have to be this monster? She became unsatisfied, and her clan threatened to turn on her. So she left in the night, trying to find that.. whatever it was. She found Brooklyn. With no money, no job and no experience, Ang was helpless. She stole from garbage cans to survive, not really understanding that was frowned upon. Slowly, though, she learned. Then she met Sam. He was a human who had noticed her on the streets. He approached one day and, confused by his kindness, Agnes followed him. He taught her what a friend was and offered her a job at his bar. He went on about something about her beauty attracting customers. For several months she worked, and on a full moon night, Sam offered her a drink. Almost immediately something tasted wrong, but she had never consumed alcohol, so, without realizing that the drink wasn't supposed to be bitter, she drank it.

She awoke, half-naked, bruised and sore, in an unknown part of town. With no understanding of what happened, the witch wandered in the darkness of the night. Her itch grew stronger and stronger. Then she found The Crossroads.

Name: Shinhoshi Akashi

Age: 20

Race: Human

Personality: He is a man who is filled with malicious confidence. Believing that he is the heir of a harbinger of doom, he attempts to act like an intimidating person thus he often speaks and acts in an odd manner. He also has the strong will to cooperate with others in need because he 'needs to use his powers right'. When threatened, he is a cold-blooded fighter who fights with no mercy unless the victim submits to defeat or dies. Sometimes, he also does unfair tactics when he feels like doing it (he can flick salt on opponent's wounds and faces, he stomps on his enemies, etc.). Overall, he is a generally horrible person in first impression but as the story progresses, he might change.

Abilities and Skills: A proficient man in combat, he can use various weapons to solve his problems (In certain cases, even mundane problems fall victim to his unconventional methods.) He can also conjure completely ordinary weapons from his briefcase which he always carries and that briefcase can teleport to him anytime.

History: What is known for now is that he was a violent hitman who was often held as suspect every time a murder turns out to be unsolvable. But since no evidence is directed to him, he is usually released. This time, he attempts to find an improvement in his life by finding a settlement and trying to live peacefully.

Lives in: Apartment 15
The Ex Legion: A squad of underlings under one mind.

Name: Alexander
Gender: mail
Race: birdman
Appearance: Standing at six and a half feet in height, Alexander has the head and legs of a bird and the body of a man. He has a rangy build and is covered in a thick layer of snow-white feathers. Instead of wings, he has humanoid arms and hands. His long legs are yellow and covered in thick, scaly skin. His three-toed feet are tipped with razor-sharp talons. Alexanders's beak, the same color as his legs, is short and conical, and a pair of expressive, sky blue eyes are set upon his face.
Personality: Alexander is Ditsy and featherbrained. Notwithstanding this, he is, in all actuality, quite intelligent. He is lively and carefree. Alexander is deeply loyal and compassionate toward others and will do his best to help, whether via talking someone through a difficult situation or giving him/her a shoulder to cry on. Although it doesn't take much to upset him, it takes a village to anger him. He is easily intimidated.
Powers: Like all avian creatures, Alexander is capable of flight. He can speak, read, and make all the noises a bird makes: chirping, warbling, cooing, squawking, etc. His talons are used for grabbing things and defense.
Weaknesses: He can sustain damage by any magical, supernatural, and general means. His flight is very klutzy and he is inept at defending himself.
History: Alexander had no idea how he got to Langley. One moment he was flying around on a futuristic earth, then the next, he was staring at the immense structure with sheer shock, amazement, and curiosity.
Residence: Apartment 14 (hidden treasure chest)
