Just reconfirming my interest. I was thanking I wanted to make a wolf totem, too. Has anyone expressed interest in the totemic host with animalistic traits? I'd like to call dibs if not!

A big thanks to Marquis for helping me brainstorm and iron out the finer points of my character. (Just giving thanks where it is due)

Here is my character :)

Katherine (Kat) Shermain
Age: 21
Class: Corporate
Occupation: Hacker
Appearance: Standing at 5’10”, Kat is an imposing figure in real life. She has decent musculature and a short bob of red hair. She has one eye of brilliant blue, and one that is bionic. Her face and body is scarred, marking (though not all together ruining) the appearance of what must have been a beautiful young woman. She has a metallic left arm and right leg.

Cyborg
-Bionic Eye: she can access and navigate VR through her eye. It lies over her vision in a semitransparent fashion. Additionally, she has increased visual abilities in her eye, making her good at spotting small details or seeing things from far off.
-Increased strength in her cybernetic limbs
-She has several compartments in her limbs that she uses to sometimes hide things (mostly thumb-drives)


History:
Kat used to be the totemic host of the spirit of a cat. When she was little she was burned in a fire aimed to kill her parents who delved deeply into the black market. Orphaned, she was picked up by a local scientist who greatly needed a new project. He operated on her and gave her new limbs and eye. This infringement on her natural body caused the cat spirit within her to disappear or to flee—it’s not completely known. Kat, though initially resentful, came to love the scientist (Jeb) like a father and is fiercely protective of him now that he is older.

But she had to garner power somehow. Using a beat up laptop and thumb drives out of nostalgia (not necessarily need as she could use her eye for whatever she wanted in VR), she hacks as a lifestyle and occupation. She improves or destroys user experiences within VR for power, or for blackmail—whichever suits her at the current moment. She certainly enjoys her profession and often is found hacking small elements of certain user’s experiences to see exactly how much she can get away with before being caught. Though the pair isolates themselves in the house aside from meals and mandated VR exploring hour in which they navigate the VR together for an awkward hour, Jeb knows of her activity, but doesn’t approve. He doesn’t want this kind of life for his adopted daughter. Little does Kat know, but someone else, a number of people in fact, have been watching her and are not pleased.

Appearance: Lithe and tall, Malek has a dancer's frame, more graceful than imposing. Dark in hair, complexion and eye, he has a smile that stands out almost as much as his easy swagger.

Totemic Host - Giant Pacific Octopus
  • Mal's body produces complex chromatophores and iridocytes, allowing his skin to change in order to blend in with its surroundings
  • Malek's joints are hypermobile, though whether this is a genetic trait or one brought on by his totem is up for debate
  • Modifications:
    • Mesh Insert suite, a network of interconnected cybernetic brain implants allowing the bearer to connect to the VR grid without the use of peripheral equipment. Includes;
      Cranial Computer: serves as the hub for the user’s personal area network. Capable of acting as a browser, alarm clock/calendar, positioning and map system, address book and/or file storage system, depending on user preferences. Also manages the user’s augmented reality input.
      Transceiver: Connects the user to other devices/users within effective range, usually limited to within 1 kilometer in crowded habitats. [Currently Deactivated]
      Medical Sensors: Monitors the user’s medical status, including heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, temperature, neural activity, and much more. Interprets the data and warns the user of any concerns or dangers.
    • Access jack located in the base of the skull. An external socket with a direct neural interface, allowing the user to establish a direct wired connection using a fiberoptic cable to external devices.
    • Neurochemical (neurochem) bioware modification. Enhances chemical synapses and juices neurotransmitters, drastically speeding up neural connections. Causes 'neurochem' hangovers with repeated use.
    • Geckoware specialised grip modifications to hands and feet. Designed for low-scale emulation of the pads on gecko feet, assisting the user in scaling most surfaces.
    • Implanted Nanotoxins. Literal nanotoxins within the subject's brain, designed to bring about instantaneous death when triggered. [Currently Deactivated]
    • KumaloTech Smart Wear: photo-adaptive clothing that mimics Mal's chromatophore changes, allowing it to shift colours as he does. [Stolen]
    • Weaknesses: Lacking in combat augmentations. Technically somewhere between 'on the run' and 'stolen property'. Synthetic nicotine addiction. Smart mouth.
    • Singular Expertise: Lying. Malek blends into situations almost as easily as he does backgrounds, and can usually bluff, brag, fib, bluster or ad-lib his way in/out of trouble.
    The Important Blurb:
    Malek al-Akkad was recruited at a young age by Kumalo International to serve as a Reclamation Agent. On paper, this required him to repossess peripheral hardware and bioware that had been issued by KI on an extended trade agreement, and for which the receiving party had failed to make good on their end of the bargain. Off-paper, the job involved regular instances of illegal infiltration, coercion, blackmail, kidnapping and bodily harm in order to retrieve Kumalo International tech. This didn't bother Mal overly much; he was a poor kid from the slum quarters whose aspirations would otherwise never have extended further than being well-off enough to live with his feet out of the filth. What did bother him was when KI moved to liquefy a number of field assets (quite literally, as biomods are hard enough to retrieve), himself included. Partaking in a little unsanctioned activity of his own, he had a number of his modifications deactivated - specifically those which could track and/or kill him - and headed for the hills.

    Malek makes most of his money illegally, given his technical status as a fugitive. Fortunately the skills that made him so valuable to Kumalo International also lend themselves to a number of in-demand activities, including (but not limited to) petty thievery, grand larceny, data theft, con jobs, private investigation, juggling, breaking and entering, roof work, street performance and mime. He's also inherently likeable, despite being an unscrupulous bastard of the highest caliber.

Character Specifics
Appearance: Taser is a ‘true’ electronic ghost. She appears as an 18 year old girl whose design is heavily influenced by the electric eel. A long, midnight blue, high ponytail pools down to her waist and sways in a manner eerily similar to the swimming of an eel. Her fashion is all dark in colour - from her combat boots, to her leather jeans, to her frilled silk blouse and nail polish. The focal points of colour that prevent her from seeming too much of an angsty teenager lie in the neon, rainbow graffiti patterns of electric eels that tangle themselves across her bomber jacket. The piercing blue eyes of an eel gleam from behind screens, careful yet demanding. Compared to other figures in the digital realm, she is tall and angular, standing at 5’9” when measured against real people.

Totemic abilities: Taser has memories in her mortal form of being able to generate concentrated jolts of electricity across her nervous system, exiting through the pores of her skin. This involved being able to stun people to the ground and being able to navigate through the dark by shocking something and following the electric field like a radar, chasing after things without the need for sight or touch.

Electronic ghost abilities: Her totemic skills don’t really show now… But she likes to think that her ease in being able to switch between digital mediums and slide into other’s VR systems stems from her electricity manipulation roots. So long as it is powered by electricity, she can find a way to warp into most devices, although some hacks would come at the cost of damage to her digits that she'd rather not jeopardise.

Weaknesses: “Do you want me to haunt you. One does not just ask a ghost for their weaknesses.”

Other: She spends a large amount of her time playing RPG and racing games as her own entity. Secretly indulges in relaxing art/painting and card games.

Important Blurb
The digital realm is home to all sorts of places. Kind of like the real world - or so Taser would like to believe. She snakes her way into a home wherever she can find one, always observing the colours of people that filter in from the outside. The Little Mermaid’s ‘Part of Your World’ plays like a backing track to her thoughts. Constantly curious of what's poppin’ outside, she asks people what it's like whenever she gets the chance to. Of course, most people hop into VR to escape their realities, so she doesn’t often get much details.

She tends to be a bitter little bugger, hopping to and fro softwares, bored out of her right mind, trying to find something to spend the time away. There’s a lot of things she misses doing from her memories and a lot of senses she misses feeling, especially taste. The kid loved eating comfort food before diving into a good food coma.

Taser hasn't a clue as to how she got to her position today. I mean, sure, what's a ghost without identity issues - but it does get on her nerves how she doesn't have a physical form and yet is well conscious of her decisions and past memories like any other person. Was she an electronic experiment, a glitch, did she die in VR and never log out?! Was she actually a robot with false memories implanted into her? She'd be pissed if the latter were the case and refuses to believe such a thing. She may be a ghost, but the world felt far too real.

Alright folks, with Forge, Georgeanna, Kookaburra, and Sammy all approved for this RP, I want to move ahead, so here is my plan...

I will accept character sheets through the end of this Saturday (Dec. 9 all time zones) so that anyone who wants to get in from the start has weekday and weekend options to get setup. At that point, I will shift to a wait list to come into the RP at a later time. I will post the first IC post on Sunday, and it will include the approved cast of characters. I am setting a goal to have two posts per person, per week. We will see how that goes and adjust accordingly. So Chaos, Mocc, Trek, Wad, Weasel, and anyone else - if you want to join in at the start, those are my expectations. But please don't pressure yourself only to bail later...if coming in at a later time will be better for you...do that because there will be plenty of ways to introduce characters as we go that will be dynamic and weave your character into the plot.

In summary: Sunday fun day!

Savit's height is around 180cm, and his body type is hard to define since he hides it behind really baggy clothes, and even his face is covered by mask and hood. His suit of dirty-sand color seems also be covered in real dirt and surely it seen better days, but most of people could have hard time figuring out where he could possibly put his clothes to such tests. VR is not really damaging to clothes. Savit by himself seems to always be in at least in little movement. When he stands he keeps his legs bended by little and torso waving along with his freely hanging hands. When he sits he is constantly stamping his foot and he his hands are tapping his thights to the rhythm. If he wouldn't be playing his loud music without a brake you could swear that he never stops humming or mumbling.

Totemic host - House Spider
Savit body is capable of leaping on far distances, falling from high spots, and sticking to most of surfaces with an ease, like simply gravity said that they time together is over and they need some space. He also seems uncomfortable while interacting with females.

Polyhistor Power:
The power he controls allows him to catch in a illusion anyone who hears his music. The power of it depends on how many people are affected. If he is in the middle of the crowd he can barely make people feel little uneasy, or unsettled but with no direct effects, but if he focus his powers on one person he can make them see or hear things like they where real life experiences. Sometimes doings of these magic are more abstract then making targets just seeing things, like making all of surroundings to lose color expect for a item Savit wants his victim to focus on. Savit's illusion can be used in many ways, just like a rope in hands of fit sailor.
Equipment:
Telescopic Baton: Nothing special in this weapon. Shows that ability of smacking faces keeps it's usefullnes to this time.
Silenced Pistol: Really tiny model to be honest, not capable of dealing lethal wounds unless hitting a vital spot like brain or a heart. Savit keeps it hidden what is much easier with it's small size, and he doesn't recall actually killing any one with it, not like he tried.
Boombox Bagpack: Large speaker lifted on Savit's shoulders. It's crucial in Savit's magic but without him it's just a speaker.
Nira: Nira is an AI which Savit bought on black market with highly developed software of imitating human behavior. She is connected to her host in similar manner in which VR works. She mostly search out information for him, alerts him about dangers, suggest strategist and keeps him company.

Weaknesses:
Armor:Even with Savit's skills based around combat he is helpless around armored enemies. His baton and pistol simply can't pierce high tech armor, so law enforcement, robots, and cyborgs are most of high threat to our merc.
Security Systems: Sometimes he finds a way around by entering highly placed window or finding a flaw to exploit in humans, but his hands are tied with automated protection, forcing his line of work out to public spaces.

Some Stuff:
Savit seems to avoid VR more than most of people, as he claims that it's power is scary and overwhelming and that he is cut out of reality enough in the way he is. He spends most of his free time on sitting on some sort of higher ground, usually in form of building ledges, and staring on outside wastelands or passing by human crowds. He has this irrational urge of leaving the city and traveling across the outskirts. Maybe some mysterious polyhistorian power is calling him, or maybe he is just little freaky. Whatever it is it caused Savit to feel overly controlled and with time it developed some of anarchist behaviors. Most visible one is his incapability of finding stable job.

Singular Expertise:
Freestyle dancing. He just like to boogie.

Name: Luciana Jindal-Covi
Age: 25
Appearance: About 5’6”, and with features that showcase her Indian ancestry, Luciana is always colorful in her makeup more than her clothing.

The Twin: Leo Jindal-Covi, host of the red panda totem, is the younger of the two, but makes up for it by being taller, at almost 6 foot. He takes more after their Italian ancestors than his immediate family. He’s one of the few able to get away with calling his sister Luci.

Totemic Host - Myna
Luciana can recreate pretty much any sound she’s heard. And if she’s given a big enough sample, she can mimic another person’s voice. (Leo hates when she uses this to make fun of him) As well, her sound recall is incredible.

She mostly uses this to dominate in karaoke on the VR scene.

The Important Blurb:
A bit of a novelty in a world of mostly only children, the twins have since grown sick of the attention it can bring. Like, it’s not that big a deal. Move on guys.

Otherwise Luciana is pretty content with her life. She’s got her friends, a bit of a following for her karaoke skills, and a brother to tease. The whole intrigue going on in the city doesn’t really reach her notice, and the biggest thing she has to deal with at the moment is friend drama. So far, at least.

Consider this my formal, public apology to Weasel for putting him on blast. Not my intention and not cool. That said, I am excitedly working with him on something that will hopefully work. Anyone needing an excuse to jump ship, you (hopefully) won't get a better opportunity than now.

Trek, glad to hear you are still interested. Still solid time to get something together. Let me know if I can be of assistance.

Wadjet, short and sweet and approved. I think the power is radical, although I am increasingly nervous about the impending death by pop group any antagonists face.

Sorry I took so long, but here is my CS! Please, let me know if need to change anything.
Name: Odin Turner.
Age: 24.
Appearance: Standing at 1.74 meters in height, Odin has a strong, muscular build. He has unkempt black hair and thick beard and sideburns, as well as a lot of hair on his arms and the rest of his body. Because he is one of the few totemic hosts to show physical manifestations of his totem, he has yellow, blood-shot eyes. It could be argued that his bodily hair density is a physical manifestation of his condition as well.

Totemic Host - Black Wolf
  • Sturdy Build: Odin has superhuman endurance and resistance, which means he can take many more knocks to the head than a normal person can and he takes much longer to get tired. He also has a higher healing factor, although it isn't very extreme. A cut that would take about a day for a normal person to heal would close in about half a day for Odin (as opposed to closing almost immediately for certain comic book characters).
  • While Odin is indeed very strong, his strength is still within human limits, so he could easily be beaten by a totemic host who specializes in strength.
  • Singular Expertise: Odin is a good boxer, which means he can handle himself pretty well in a fistfight. Unfortunately, this makes it so his not very good in a fight if he's using a weapon. He's also stubborn, so he won't take a weapon unless he doesn't have a choice.
  • Weaknesses: He is very aggressive and not very smart, which leads him to throw himself head-first into danger without considering the risks or thinking up of a good strategy more often than he should. This extends beyond combat and dangerous situations, as he will usually treat his friends and allies in an aggressive manner and unintentionally drive them away. He is aware of this, though, and he tries to be polite, but he slips up more than he'd like. As stated above, he's no good in a fight with weapons. He also has very little patience.
The Important Blurb:
Growing up in a less privileged part of the city made him turn out to be quite the rugged man. While he did have access to VR and other such advanced tech, it was slightly more limited than other people's. He also didn't like to spend all that much time plugged into a machine, as he liked exercising and being out and about.

Eventually, he learned how to fight, so he joined the illicit boxing matches that were common in his neighborhood so he could provide, as his mother was unable to work due to a disease and his father left her before Odin was even born. This shows that, while Odin might be a intimidating, aggressive and unapproachable, he does still care about people, and he will lay down his own life to protect anyone he cares about.
