Looking forward to a Senate meeting. I'll squeeze Claire in at the meeting before she heads off to Caybourne.

Good to see you back, Jake!

@dinthalion - All good, dinth! Feel free to move Rasheba (appearance and wikipage) where she'd likely be moved so to receive the Vennets aboard the Provenire. She will be dressed in this armour without the helm. Her hair is braided back in a bun, but strands of hair have gotten free around her face.

@Skummy - That puzzle box... it smells like sea-salt. Also, here's where I mentioned both items Darius has given Saki:
Kotorchix wrote:He looped a water-proof belt-pocket onto the leather strap, patting at the druskh-packed pellets inside.

Druskh was something he hadn’t seen in a while. It was a rarity to find anywhere outside of a highbrow apothecary, or maybe a museum. The Dwarves of the Obscura Mountains used to craft the strange pellets, but the art was lost with the Spreading. He had heard rumor some folk were undertaking a study on the substance so as to replicate it, but it would involve going deep into the Obscura Mountains to find samples or even rifle through the lost cities of the dwarves.

Druskh itself was a very volatile substance. A dark blue- or purple-black powder, it was almost grimy when rubbed between the fingers – though, that wasn’t something one with sweaty hands wanted to do. With the contact of water, the powder would create a large explosion. The pellets were constructed with a thick, water-soluble resin. When the pellets hit water, it would take a few seconds for the explosion to occur. The resin also had the handy feature of becoming sticky when wet – so it could be stuck to things.

Darius briefly wondered at the Captain’s sanity on keeping these things on board a ship sailing on the water… but dismissed the thought quickly enough. He himself was insane to consider approaching the Untamed Isles if there was even the slightest evidence of demonic presence. The druskh-pellets would hopefully help turn the tide if an element of surprise was needed…

The final item, still on the map table, was magical. Darius had hoped the old pirate captain had at least had the luck to stumble upon something of its power in his travels. But even though Darius could feel the power radiating from it… he couldn’t figure out how to open its prison. Puzzle-boxes. He hated them. He left it on the table as something to keep him occupied later.

Baby steps. Skummy keeps scratching at my door, he won't let me sleep or live without posting.

But yes there are tentative steps being made toward writing again. :bounce:

Also I had no idea what you were talking about Kotor to I wrote, then came back to see what you meant but I just added to it instead nyas

Leaving th eMetheryl stuff unreplied because once the transition happens then I'll have enough content between Elissia talking some more and Metheryl interacting with people and nyas :3

Can I just say that I love you guys? This RP is awesome.

EDIT: Post is posted. It was 19 pages long in Word. I expect everyone to read every word, I worked super hard on that. (Nah, jokes, seriously, just read what you're interested in. Senate's probably the most important.)

Attia has an orc just outside ready to break any hands that touch her. Woe betide the fool who enters her personal space. Usher her out will they. :xeyes:

Okay, so because I'm obsessed... Using the map's key for 100 miles, I've been looking at the sizes of the islands I've made up. Instead of going so far as to actually calculate land mass, etc, at this point, I'm just looking at territory.

For Westgate (home of the Umbridges), they have about 2,500 square miles of territory.
For Caybourne (home of the Ludlows), they have about 11,000 square miles of territory.

Also, was wondering... did anyone want me to make up any other islands, etc on the map? Big map and size of 10k sq miles.

tbh applying actual geography/travel times make me nervous because im absolutely terrible with that sort of thing. I picture the mainland being roughly the size of australia, and the the Thunderlands covering roughly the same amount of area as France.

It makes me nervous too, I'm just glad we can explain any discrepancies away with magic! But I'm sort of curious too...

Real World:
Australia - 2,969,907 sq mi
France - 247,368 sq mi

Aradia: (if close to the 100 mi key)
Mainland - 600,000 sq mi(ish)

Asked a friend for a bit of help in the maths here... if we want Aradia to be the same size as Australia, our 100 mi key will have to be 230 mi instead. 230 x 230 = 1 key = 52,900 sq mi. It'd bring Aradia up to around 2,962,400 sq mi. And leaving Caybourne and Westgate the same size in relation to Aradia, their respective areas would be around 17,633 sq mi and 8,816 sq mi.

So for the Thunderlands to cover roughly the same area as France (247,368 sq mi), their lands would have to fit into 4.6 squares on this map.

Dear God, I have no life.

I'm used to looking at maps of mainland Europe which makes countries like France, Spain etc look way more substantial than the actually are compared to other nations, and looking at the scale map you provided the estimate i gave feels wrong. For the amount of people and resources the Blackthornes have, their land would have to be about 9 to 12 of those boxes.

(sorry about this, we've all tried to talk about population sizes and stuff before and it nearly always ends in confusion)

All good, man. It's just a fun world-building exercise anyway.

So the Blackthornes are originally from the Thunderlands?

Sort of. The Blackthornes are descended from the Stormlords, who were themselves descended from the Grey Folk who colonized the Thunderlands but originally came from mainland Aradia (as do, I think, all human species, though i might need to check that with Shakey). They also have a lot of ancestral roots in Brecilidia, which is the native land of High Elves.

Where is Brecilidia? xD

... maybe Elmer IS a high elf, if 'to the east' is the answer...

Brecilidia is this sort of Avalon/Valinor-like paradise to the far North. It was its own separate kingdom until the Blackthornes and Knoxes teamed up and conquered the place about 500 years ago. Now the land is owned by the Senate (though the Blackthornes claim personal ownership to most of it) and has been stripped of a lot of its resources by mining and forestry, so it's far from being as nice a place as it once was.

*puts dibs on somewhere to the East*

We should totally do some more codex entries. I love this stuff. So do the high elves have any lingering hatred towards the Blackthornes and Knoxes? Or even the Senate?

EDIT: As for the IC... DUN DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN *jaws theme*
