Ah, ok. Good to know.

Also, do you prefer written description or will image work?
I have no real preference though I always think writing a physical description can serve as a good opportunity to show off your writing skill. Totally up to you though.

Name: Jacob Howlett

Age: 48

Location: England, United Kingdom

Appearance:
Image
Personality: Gruff and plain-spoken, Jacob often comes across as more coarse than he actually is. Despite years of managing a chunk of Lord Mountford's household staff he's always been better with animals than people, and sadly what works with the former doesn't generally apply to the latter. As a result he can often be overly blunt when dealing with others, and while a firm touch might have been useful in keeping errant stable hands in line, it hasn't done him any favours in terms of making friends easily. Moreover, Jacob has a fairly rigid set of morals, particularly where hard work and doing what's right are concerned. Any breach of these standards, either by himself or others, tends to get his hackles up. Beneath the rough exterior Jacob is a good man at heart, and while he might not be the most receptive shoulder to cry on, he cares deeply about those around him. Jacob is particularly empathetic towards animals and, while he'll countenance hunting under the right circumstances, doesn't tolerate those who mistreat their pets or working animals.

Strengths: Jacob is a fair shot with a rifle, having led Lord Mountford's hunting expeditions for a number of years. Due to his profession he's good with both hounds and horses, and by extension reasonably capable when it comes to animals in general, though the former two are his preference. He's in good shape for a man of his years, being well used to early mornings and hard work, and so rarely balks at taking his share of a task. By virtue of his position he also holds some knowledge of navigating the tangled briar patch that is London's nobility.

Weaknesses: A bluff and plain-spoken man by nature, often coming across as gruff and somewhat surly, which rarely lends itself to making friends. In addition Jacob's a firm believer in hard work, and often lacks sympathy for those who can't pull their weight. Despite his own circumstances the former steward is a firm believer in the law and doing what's right, and rarely finds any comfort in the notion of venturing outwith them. Lastly, despite his good health he isn't as young as he once was, a fact he stubbornly refuses to acknowledge.

Notable History: For the last decade and a half Jacob Howlett served as the head steward for the household of Lord George Mountford, a Baron and peer of some renown. Within the household he was appointed as master of both stables and kennels, and for the most part was content with his lot in life. Granted, the job involved more travelling and hob-nobbing with the well-to-do than he was comfortable with, but it allowed him to indulge his passion for hounds and horses, and there were worse employers one could have. The Baron was not a man prone to excessive vices; moreover, he had a keen interest in hunting, and had circumstances been different Jacob would have called him a friend. That changed with the eruption of Öræfajökull, and an heirloom otherwise forgotten amidst a glass-cased collection of curios in Lord Mountford's library.

Needless to say, the infant dragon's unexpected hatching and subsequent escape from the cabinet caused a deal of commotion and some small amount of panic, neither of which fully settled even after Jacob and two of the hands managed to negotiate the wayward reptile into a cage normally reserved for dogs. In an ideal world, that would have been the end of his involvement in the entire thing; except that the dragon's appearance sparked a change in his employer. The reemergence of a creature long thought to be a myth turned the Lord Mountford's thoughts to personal gain. He would, he assured his staff, be the talk of London - the only decision to be made was whether the creature would be more profitable in a menagerie, or sold to a scientific college for vivisection and study. Jacob stewed over his decision as long as he could. He'd tried pleading with the Baron, attempting to steer and cajole him into a different course of action, but to no avail. Torn over the duty and gratitude he owed his employer, the simple fact that one look into the dragonling's intelligent, inherently aware eyes had told him that he couldn't allow Mountford's plans to go ahead.

I'm new so I am floating this :)

Name: Andrew Tompkin
Age: 34
Location: Where ever he is hanging his hat.
Born:Toronto, Canada

Appearance: Andrew is a tall, thin young man with red hair that is shoulder length. He has blue eyes and fair skin. His clothing is fairly clean, a little ruffled. He wears a gold necklace and a college class ring. He has a scar on his left shoulder from some trouble he got into when he was younger, trying to get through a barb wire fence. In his kit he has little treasures from his travels. His two prized possessions are orange monk robes and an old Tibetian book.

Personality: Andrew is shy, but he likes most people. He likes to watch people, what they do, and at times their stuff. As a general rule, he is not a big fan of those in authority or authoritarian, unless they are really trying to helping him. In the right circumstances, he can be a flirt and charming. He is curious about things and how they work. When Andrew gets to know someone he is very loyal. As a younger man, “No” is not his favorite word, unless he says it. As he has become more of a monk and hearing no more often, he deals with it better. Andrew also has a tendency to collect “strays” be it people or animals.

Hopes and Goals: Andrew is looking for a place to belong. Enough adventure to keep him involved.

Strengths: Andrew is good with his hands and can do some basic tricks, palming, slights and redirects (basic stage magic stuff). Andrew has worked numerous odd jobs (Jack of many trades – master of none). He has a good ear for learning speaking and languages (though being semi-literate, makes reading a writing harder), street knowledge (conman, petty criminal).

Weaknesses: homeless, semi-literate (functional but not exceptional so), has a weakness for "strays." and the downtrodden.

Notable History: Andrew was born in the outskirts of Toronto Canada. At a young age his family moved north to a rural mining community. It didn’t take long for Andrew to get tired of the small school he attended and start to explore the world. By the time he was sixteen, he was back in Toronto working construction, cooking, mechanic, and other odd jobs and living on the street or in shelters. By the time he was eighteen, he had signed on as a shipmate engineer. Andrew has been working his way around the world.

It was in Tibet that Andrew had his first real encounter with magic. He ended up being befriended by an old monk, mainly because he was hungry and broke. He spent years learning from his master, how to control his body (fight/defend), how to control his mind (concentrate/meditate), and eventually how to cast and control magic. This was the first place that Andrew felt like he belonged. Andrew learned to read his spells not as words, as they are written in glyphs, but as images that interact on the page. The monastery that he was at was attacked and he and some of the other monks were sent out with the ancient books and teachings. He ended up taking his master’s book with him. Now he is still traveling about, living on the streets or with other monks at times.

Thanks for the sheet, Martin and welcome to the forum! Great to see you jumping straight into the action.

Something we can discuss if you get one of the spots but just because it might be helpful info for the others too - this isn't case of your character 'befriending' a dragon and then pottering around the globe with them. Envoys are selected and compelled to protect/aid their dragons by magical means. That's not to say your character won't end up having a close relationship with their dragon (although that's by no means guaranteed) but these are complex, vastly intelligent creatures as opposed to pets! Just wanted to make sure I cleared that one up.

Not a problem, it is a starting idea. :) I am playing off Jacob being the straight and narrow, by the book, honorable kind of man. I figure Andrew is the pet, go-fer, butler, handyman, excetera, in the relationship. There is nothing like a vastly smarter, vastly stronger creature, to help a young man who is mentally stuck in his early teans, grow up quick.

As to magic, Andrew would be more than happy to learning magic (or have been learning magic).

I was playing off of Jacob being straight and narrow, by the book, keep a stiff upper lip.

Riven ‘Rin’ Geller
Name: Riven Geller, more commonly known as Rin.
Age: 24
Location: America
Appearance:
Rin prefer keeps his crow black hair neck length or a bit less when he can, the mostly straight hair tends to curl slightly near the bottoms, though only when short. At length it’s coarse and straight. Though when it does grow out he tries his best to keep it out of his eyes, wrapping it into a bun or tail, but there’s almost always a grouping of strands that lands itself in his eyes. Making it an uncommon sight to see him not blowing or flicking the strands out of his eyes with annoyance. Beneath his hair you’ll find an angular face, sharp eyebrows and keen blue eyes.

The most outstanding features to his face are the squint wrinkles and sharp highlighted eyebrows, giving his glare an intimidating keen, but his smile gentle warmth. As well as a easily seen scar jutting down from his left cheek to jaw. The few years of wind he’s endured have left their traces on his face, giving it a wind-hardened look. Facial hair he prefers to be smooth shaven, but rarely keeps up with it when traveling.

His form is a slender one. Standing roughly 5’7, he’s not exactly an imposing sight. Although his years in the north has trimmed and toned his body. Commonly seen wearing a dull black duster and common pants, he prefers nothing too extravagant assuming function over form.

It isn’t odd to find him with a short stout tobacco pipe smoking, whilst he’s lost to thought.

Personality:

Reservation for contemplation. Silence in understanding. Together these result in what outwardly makes Rin a withdrawn individual. His time traveling in less than desirable company has further enforced his families teachings in constant observation and reservation of their fellow humans. The scar visible on his face being an ode to a failing in just that. Though in his travels he’s met some good hearty folk, who’ve shared meal and home with him.

In times like those, Rin is an exceedly kindred soul. Well he tries to, with all his heart, but he has a very hard time identifying with people's emotions. It isn’t an issue of perception, he can read people and he knows emotions, but he struggles to say the right things. Usually ending up with him only hurting the person even more, but he tries. Though, because of this he keeps his distance from people, rarely letting them get too close for any sort of relationship to form in the first place. Thinking it better to not have the issue in the first place.

Family is a different matter entirely. Rin, despite his previous actions, loves his family deeply, and would do almost anything for them. Meaning that him leaving his family for the north no small issue. Though his parents had insisted if it was what he’d wanted he should go for it. Leaving his twin behind had been even harder. He’d hoped that in going north he could find something to bring back to his family, to try and satiate the guilt lingering within him.

The reason for such unrest within him was the duel between his all consuming curiosity/wanderlust and his love for family. Making him wage something of an inner war within self. His love of his family and his burning desire to see the world has cause him much grief. His mind already a whirlwind of imagination, creativity and analysis pitting his two passions caused quite an internal stir.

Strengths:
Survivalist, Rin has just spent the last four years surviving the harsh northern climates and the cutthroats. Surviving well and without losing limb or member of limb. He’s perceptive, of both human functions and the wilderness. He’s good in a scrap, not the best, but he knows his way around a gun. Especially rifles for the long shot to hunt animals. His natural calm and poise makes him a very reliable person in a pinch, making him a trustworth ally.

By far his greatest strength is his curiosity, always fueling him to drive ever forward in whatever he’s pursuing. His creativity and perception go hand in hand with this making him a very persistent force.

Weaknesses:
He can come off as harsh and unempathetic to most people, and even to his friends he’ll more often than not give them the cold shoulder without realizing it. He thinks quite highly of himself and his confidence in his skills, this has led him nearly to ruin on more than one occasion. Adding that on top of his superiority complex they could quickly lead to dark roads.

Notable History:

Rin or rather, Riven Geller was born to a small family with another sibling, his twin Cambria Geller. The family moved around a fair bit, following the natural progression of the western expansion of the U.S, it wasn’t until the California gold rush that they finally settled down in a lot just outside of a mining town near Eureka, California. Without travel it was soon for Rin to feel the itch of exploration and wanderlust. He held off leaving for two years, until his 20th year came and he finally decided to leave. He asked his twin to join him, but she declined wanting to stay with the family. He left.

He joined up with a smaller expedition heading into the far north, the plan was to get up into Alaska and make a name for themselves. Though the roads were rough, and the winter months far rougher. The expedition fall apart some ways north, leaving Rin to find a new expedition or trek home, defeated. He did manage to find another crew, though this one far less savory than the last. Rin’s lust for exploration blinded him to his new crews develry and he nearly lost his life to the cutthroats. The scar on his cheek to jaw proving just that.

He managed to survive, and recuperate, he layed low until the warmer season and headed back down south. He knew he’d come back, but he wanted someone he trusted deeply. The only person he knew who could do that was his twin, and for that he needed to go home.

Name: Cambria Geller
Age: 24
Location: California, America

Appearance:
Matte black shoulder length waves frame an angular face. She looks out on the world with bright blue eyes. Beneath her unremarkable nose and mouth, her chin has a slight cleft in the center. She has an dreamy look to her, her gaze soft and facial features relaxed. A splash of faint freckles dot her nose and cheekbones.

Standing at 5’5”, Cambria is a slight, lean, and muscular woman with narrow shoulders and hips. She stands with proper posture, despite her the lax teaching she received in manners. Her body usually is relaxed, manifesting in an easy grace to her stride.

Personality:
At first introduction, someone would probably say that Cambria is reserved. Not exactly shy, but rather somebody who chooses her words carefully and speaks with purpose when she does. While she may seem standoffish, Cambria really craves interpersonal connections, even if that simply means sitting with someone. Excluding people in social situations doesn’t ever come to her mind as an appropriate option, save for if said person poses a threat to people she cares about mentally, emotionally, or physically. Due to her unorthodox upbringing, Cambria has no problem with new people, though to say she is overly friendly would be an exaggeration. Don’t let her fool you though with her quiet nature; Cambria is anything but a pushover. She is accommodating up until a point, at which she will stand up for herself, her beliefs, others, etc. Moreover, having a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility for herself and for her family has meant that she rarely takes the easy way out.

Cambria’s mind is constantly spinning, a stark contrast to her outwardly reserved nature, hinting at a decent amount of self-control. She’s always been a dreamer, a free-spirit waiting to break free, imagining her life going far differently than it has. The world captures her in a childlike sense of awe, and travelling has always been a way for her to explore it. However, her fancies and imagination stay just that, dreams. For her entire life, Cambria has always been the responsible and wary one, bordering on an almost cynical point of view. Where others see exciting opportunities, she sees an underlying challenge. She constantly approaches situations with a grain of salt, considering all outcomes of her actions. However, despite her doubts, she remains enraptured with the majesty of the world.

Strengths:
Due to her upbringing and recent internship, Cambria is a skilled survivalist and has a pretty basic understanding of medicinal practices. She is able to identify flora and fauna with ease and is a decent navigator. Her shining strengths are the logic she possesses and the precision with which she analyzes each situation. On a more social note, Cambria has a good deal of empathy and loyalty.

Weaknesses:
Due to the giant chasm of disparity between her more reasonable and more imaginative sides, she can be indecisive, often considering too many contingency plans to make quick decisions. Under stress, a more aggressive side of her personality comes to light, often causing her to snap at people and get angry over small things. Additionally, she holds a nasty grudge.

Notable History:
Cambria was one of two children in the Geller family. Her twin, Rin, and she traveled with their parents throughout their childhood and adolescence until they finally caught wind of the Gold Rush happening in California. At that point, the family pointed themselves west and settled in a mining town near Eureka, California in the hopes that their father would be able to prospect some gold and make a living for them all. After having set up a rough homestead in the area, Riven decided to go off on his own, asking Cambria to come with him. The free-spirit in her wanted to go and explore the North, but the responsible side of her saw the way that her father started to decline in health. None of the coughs, wheezes, or slurred words went by Cambria unnoticed. So, with only days left, Cambria let Rin go on without her in order to keep an eye on her father and mother.

Over the years to come, Cambria and her mother had to acquire jobs in order to make ends meet. While her father had found some gold flakes, nothing else amounted to much, and his physical ailment was taking a toll on how long he could go prospect for. Cambria tried to find work with her mother in the general convenience store in town, but was turned away. So, Cambria turned to the saloons and worked there as a barmaid, whilst her mother sung for the saloon part time. It was just enough income to get by, and they were fine for a while.

But just as suddenly as he got sick, Cambria’s father started to make a recovery. More opportunities for work came his way, and soon the family had come out of their financial depression into a life of comfort. Cambria retained her job, despite pressure from her father to give it up, simply because it was something to do. She has become a sort of staple in the saloon crowd, always offering a quiet smile and a drink to those who come to visit.
Never one to sit still, Cambria also added on another responsibility to herself: learning medicine. It was only observing the doctor in town a few days a week, but she was a quick learner and had already picked up a lot from her vagrancy as a child. If she was lucky, she got to help treat smaller wounds, but her internship really was greatly filled with just observing and listening to the old doctor complain about how little he had to work with. She was patient though, and he enjoyed her company, so they got along well despite his constant droning.
