Welcome to the IC portion of your RPC Olympic Extravaganza hosted by your friendly, neighborhood Greek Pantheon hostage-holders and managed by... me! Your resident, world renowned, stunningly attractive and multi-talented Game Master. Over the course of the next six weeks or so, we will be running a number of mini IC events that will correspond with the contests many of you have been taking part in. Each of these events will have specific rules and regulations so please make sure you have read and understood these before posting. For those of you who have earned yourselves GM Kudos, each event will have opportunities for you to spend that but remember, each token can be used only once and there will be a lot of opportunities for you to do so.

If this is the first you're hearing about the Olympics, please check out the main Olympics Thread and The Sanctum for details.

In order to take part, you will need a Persona. If you don't have one of those but would like one, we've assembled some useful resources.
The Traveller's Guide to the Multiverse - Explanations of The Ark, The Sanctum, The Collective and what a persona is.

The Help Console - This thread does not get much use but I promise the staff do keep an eye on it. Your one-stop shop for any questions you might have.

Discord RP Chat - If you're looking for speedy answers, there's almost always someone lurking on Discord who will be able to help you with basic questions.
Current Event: The Sprint

When any residual effects have subsided, (some of you are probably better used to multiversal travel than others, after all -- I can provide sick bags if required), those brave (or indeed stupid) enough to have stepped through the portal to the staging ground of the first Olympic challenge find themselves in what may well be rather unexpected surroundings. There’s no grandstand, no cheering crowds nor is there grass or trees, dirt or even sky. No, it becomes immediately apparent to anyone in possession of more than a handful of brain cells (and, if your persona profiles are anything to go by, you all seem to think rather highly of yourselves in that regard), that the Goddess Hera has transported you, not to any old pocket realm, but to a very deep and dark part of space.

The stars here are altogether unfamiliar (even to the smartest and best travelled arses among you) and though they number in the thousands or even hundreds of thousands, they are still simply bright pinpricks of light against a backdrop of impossible darkness, it doesn’t seem that there’s any celestial objects nearby. There is something of note here, however, and being a group who apparently like their thematic consistency, that something just happens to be an impossible track of weathered Grecian paving. See, no need to panic, there’s something nice and solid underfoot. While we’re on the topic of concerns, while this place has absolutely no business having breathable air or any form of gravity, it appears that your kindly, neighbourhood deities have taken care of that too. You might just want to avoid jumping too high just incase. I mean, you’ll probably be fine but… just in case.

Where was I before I got distracted by potential, very painful death by open space? Ah yes. The track. You’re stood at the start of a length of weathered, Grecian paving that stretches ahead of you for some distance, though the lack of other, notable surroundings make it very difficult for you to pinpoint quite how long that distance is. Strangely, the track itself appears to be littered with a large number of different coloured, glowing orbs that you find yourselves immediately drawn to, despite the fact that the race has not yet begun.
Image
“Please take your positions at the starting line,” calls a disembodied, booming voice that is undeniably inhuman and yet does not bear any resemblance to any of the deities you have met thus far. “The aim of the contest is simple. Be the first to cross the finish line, for your glory and for that of your patron. The orbs are gifts from us to you, there to aid you in your efforts. Know that you will not be able to complete this task without our assistance.” There is a pause as the members of the Collective line up along the starting line and then a triumvirate of glowing orbs appear overhead. One flashes red.
“On your marks, Olympians.”
One flashes amber.
“Get set. For honour and for glory.”
The final orb flashes green.
“GO!”

Back on planet earth, a selection of humans lurking behind screens hear a soft but somewhat threatening voice from the confines of their own minds.
For the sake of all that is good and holy (and to spare me the effort of smiting you), make sure you read all of the bloody rules before you post.

How it Works

Please make sure you read and understand all of the following before posting. If anything isn’t clear, please ask myself, Sammy or Forge for clarification!
  • There will be three rounds of posting, in each round you will post only once.
  • At the start of each round, I will require each of you to roll in the Olympic discord channel. If you don’t or can’t use discord, please let me know and I will roll on your behalf.
  • The orbs scattered about the course will either gift your character with a boon they can use to better their or their teams chances of victory (either by negatively impacting an opposing character or positively impacting your character/a team mate of your choosing) or a blight which will impede your progress (by either inhibiting your character or a teammate of your choosing).
  • The number you roll will correspond to either a boon or a blight offered to your character by one of the Gods. I will DM or PM you accordingly.
  • In your post, you will detail your character navigating the sprint. You have a degree of creative freedom but you must focus on your boon/blight and how your character uses it.
  • If your boon impacts another player in some way, but they have already taken their turn, you should post your Persona using their boon as normal and DM/PM the player to let them know that they've been targeted. If you have any trouble DM/PMing another player, let me know and I'll do it for you. If you've already posted and find yourself targeted, you may make an additional post describing your Persona's reaction - alternatively, you might both prefer to do a joint post. Either is fine.
  • At the end of each round, I will post detailing the effects on any personas who have not managed to fit in a post and letting you know which personas are currently heading the pack. As the next round begins, you will all once again be required to roll in order to determine your next boon/blight.
  • For the cost of 1 GM Kudos, members will be able to re-roll for a boon/blight.
  • Questions can be directed at myself, Sammy or Forge.

Why Darkblade had decided to run? Simple really, he was seeing this as an opportunity to take a bit of a holiday. Distract himself from the normal humdrum of being staff, and till the others were returned he’d not have anyone telling him off for whatever Chibi did. Though as Ares was inside Chibi, that was solved too, at least it had not yet become a disaster. Why said divinity was opting to sit on his shoulder while they were meant to be sprinting? That he hadn’t exactly gotten and explanation for, apparently the God of War was still at war with Chibi’s proclivities.

“Try not to fall off, I won’t be stopping once I start.”

“You think I! A god! Ares! Will fall so easily!”

“Pretty much, Chibi falls off all the time.”

Which was typically cause the little git wanted to run off and cause mayhem of his own. But now was the time to set himself at his mark, and ready himself to run.

“Go! Run! For Glory!”

Like Darkblade needed the hint from Ares, but he ran anyway. His sights on the orbs, he was interested in finding out just what was contained within. Considering they were told they’d be unable to finish this race without them, that had his interest. So he pushed his legs hard, at least he had been smart enough not to wear his armour. Not the weather for it, though he probably should’ve opted for more suitable footwear. Grecian sandels were the vogue, but hardly as useful for running as a pair of running shoes would’ve been.

“Grab it! Grab it!"

As he passed the orb, he threw out his right arm. Ares grabbing his hair to stop from being flung off, as he practically clothesline the orb. It’s power was apparent to him at once, divine in origin. That of madness, which gave him a quick insight into which god created it. It’s instructions were simple, to impede friend and foe alike with it’s power. So it was he opted for his targets, one cause he felt it would keep Ares happy, another cause it was just the thing to do. Using the divine power, and his own brand of insanity, his targets were once staff, now divine. Before Forge, and Rick, well Hades and Dionysus, a horde of chibis rise from the track to impede their advance. Shirtless, and or kilt wearing chibis, derived from those they possessed. Darkblade cackled cause it seemed the thing to do when using the power of madness to summon chibis. He needed to keep running of course or the usage of the orb would be in vain.

“Uncle will not like that one bit!”

Ares was hanging on his hair still, pulling himself back to the shoulder. Though there was levity in their seeming apprehension of pissing off two of their divine kin, as it was in Ares nature to enjoy such conflict.

The white-feathered birdman stood on his mark, staring out at the endless expanse of track, heart pounding with anticipation and anxiety. He was more than thankful for Hera releasing him from the golden cage and enabling him to speak again, he was determined to do his best in this race...but he was terrified of the consequences if he lost. Alexander angered one of the gods once, he didn't want to know what would happen if he angered all of them. He was lucky he wasn't killed right on the spot. The bird's feathers ruffled at the thought.
"Go!"
The inhuman, booming voice startled him out of his reverie and he dashed forward, pushing his long, spindly legs as hard as they allowed. A grin broke across his face when a purple orb came into view. Diving for it, the bird's body warmed with a surge of power as soon as it was in his hand, almost as if it was telling him what to do. This was a blight orb, one that could inhibit either himself or one of his teammates. In this case, it was a teammate. Glancing towards Ember, he made up his mind. Seeming to sense this, the orb vanished. A purple flame would briefly engulf the empath, causing her to lose her boon.
"Sorry about that, sweetie!" Alexander called as he passed. "Good luck!"

Ember took her place at the starting line. She wasn't much of a runner. In fact, she'd explicitly said that she would not run for these events, but competition is a hard thing for the young lawyer to ignore. She took a deep breath; she'd done track in elementary school, she could do this.

Never mind that she was competing with the divine and overpowered.

"GO!" She heard the word and pushed herself forward. She could see the orbs flashing before her and saw people diving for them, and she was tempted to pass them by; yes, one might help, but one could definitely harm her or her team. Deciding that she wouldn't go out of her way for an orb, Ember focused on running, and when she saw a glowing orb in her path, she grabbed it in passing. It was the "Boon of Hades." Convenient. She looked around at her team members, looking to see who she could offer her boon to, as it would replace any blight they may have picked up. Her team seemed to be doing alright. Opting to hold onto the orb, for now, she was distracted for a brief moment as a flash of purple surrounded her.

Her boon was gone, stolen by a blight from her teammate. Shrugging it off, the empath surged forward. The blights/boons thing was a distraction, anyway. Now she could focus on running. Ember paid no more attention to her teammates or her opponents and simply ran.

Nay stood at the starting line breathing deeply and trying to calm her nerves. She enjoyed running, would even say she was pretty good at it, but there were others here who appeared far more athletic than she was.

When the first light flashed red, she quickly took her position on the mark. She adjusted her position slightly at the amber light and was out of the blocks with impressive reflexes at the green light. Her eyes had been trained on one particular orb that was directly in front of her from the moment they appeared and were explained and her hands reached out to grab it as she rapidly approached.

Tingles spread up her arms and down her spine as the power of the orb engulfed her, a smile spread across her face as she realised she had received a boon. The boon of Demeter, with the power to remove a boon from an opponent of her choice.

The only problem was that everyone was moving so fast that she barely had time to think, let alone discover which of her opponents had received a boon. Instead, she decided to direct her boon at the closest opponent with one and hope she had gotten rid of something good.

Exiting the portal, Lumeus immediately began charting the stars. All of them. But they were stars he never seen before belonging to a galaxy he had never visited. But the nice thing about being where no Resonant, or anyone for that matter, had been before was that the cosmic energy here had never been tapped. So Lumeus began collecting it as it would probably be of use later.

Lumeus took his position at the starting line along with the others, waiting and observing.

There were several members on Team Zeus that had exceptional physical conditioning that would be beneficial to this event, and Lumeus happened to be one of them. He had made himself that way after all. It just made being a mortal easier when the body performed optimally. This included taking a few liberties with his circulatory system, lung capacity, metabolic rate, and the reduction of muscle fatigue via rapid cellular regeneration. Lumeus could run without stopping for as long as he desired so long as there was an energy source to tap into to supplement for food and water.

As the runners took their marks, Lumeus slipped his hands into the pockets of his linen pants. In all his time spent on the mortal planes, Lumeus could count the number of times he had run on one hand. It was just not something he had ever been required to do, nor had it ever been necessary, and he certainly didn’t desire to do so now.

“On your marks, Olympians.”

Lumeus gave a stretch and wiggled his toes.

“Get set. For honor and for glory.”

So that was what they were racing for. What subjective prizes.

“Go!”

Lumeus removed and a handful of grapes from his pocket to snack on as he began his casual walk down the track, not even bothering to avoid the bright red orb floating in front of him.

The infinite expanse stretches before the Scribe, stars speckling the void in patterns and configurations that he didn't recognize from any of the hundreds of worlds and realities he had visited. At least not from this angle... But even as his curiosity peaks he finds that his concern is even more overpowering. This place is just a track in space and that makes it very clear what they are to do. Even before the voice starts up he finds his eyes seeking out the starting line and yet he is one of the slowest to get to it as he finds himself heavily contemplating his allies and opponents in this competition and seeking some form of strategy above the haphazard firing of synapses of which his mind consists.

He came up with one.

More accurately he came up with three, but he didn't see how to implement them readily. Moq was who knew where, and Lumeus looked less than enthusiastic to compete. His third plan was probably going to be called cheating. That meant he'd have to work on the fly. Their team, it seemed, was not really having a strong start. Nothing bad, but he couldn't aid as much as he'd have liked.

Gritting his teeth he took note of the few on his side who were putting in effort and turned his eyes to the orbs with a predatory glint.

When the 'Go' was spoken he took off at a strong sprint, making the most of his peak-human speed and agility to try and press himself as far forward as he was able. Surging through a hovering orb head-first he felt the knowledge of it's utility flow through him and shuddered at the thought. His boon was as tinged with narrative impact as was possible as the name 'Dionysus' clawed it's way through his mind and left him feeling torn.

Still; despite his displeasure at having anything associated with the god of revelry and madness come into contact with his person the boon was useful. So long as he utilized it wisely...

Energy coalesced in either hand; one a flickering of green flames summoned forth from his own life essence, and the other a haze of crackling power from the inside of the orb, he quickly calculated his options, then not seeing the ones he wished to enhance he said to hell with it and gritted his teeth as he decided to just wing it.

The power of the orb jolted up his arm and struck at his very heart at one end of the branching tangle of power whilst at it's opposing end the lancing force surged it's way into Dionysus(in Rick's body) himself. As the energy struck it cloaked them in panther's skin cloaks, a beast associated heavily with the god of wine and by narrative and totemic resonance they would both feel a surge of speed and power race through their limbs. Hopefully this would slam the deity face-first into the wall of Chibis which someone had graciously placed before him. Though; that was mostly wishful thinking.

Taking a leap the Scribe swept his hand past his pockets and down towards his raised feet. In doing so the green flames sprung from his fingertips and began to pull parchment from his numerous pockets, folding and manipulating it through his Reign of Alteration into a very particular form. As he landed back on the ground he used his newfound speed to kick hard and power forth on a pair of magically made inline skates for just a little extra edge.

After all; no one had specified they had to run by fleet of foot alone, merely that they must be the first to reach the end and they must use the powers offered to them. And at least if they did call him out as a cheat he wouldn't be as heavily penalized as if he'd gone with his first thought... just teleporting to the end.

Traveling was nothing new to G, but this? This was truly impressive. Sitting in the passenger seat in her own mind, watching the world as nothing but a spectator, she couldn’t help but be astonished by the setting that surrounded them. So many stars were scattered across the blanket of space; G couldn't help but be dazzled.

Thank gods you’re not running this race, Athena smugly chimed in, whilst stretching her quads. So awestruck by a few stars you’d likely fall off of the track altogether. G stayed quiet, likewise refusing to be chastised by the goddess and unable to deny that that wasn't a possibility, eliciting only an additional laugh from Athena.

Stretching her arms quickly, and lowering herself into a crouch, Athena watched the orbs flash their respective colors. She knew better than to underestimate this challenge; it was likely this sprint would be unmerciful. As the green orb glowed, all sound disappeared with the intensity of her focus. The goddess ran, her feet hitting the pavement with intent and purpose, arms swishing back and forth at her sides to keep her moving in rhythm.

A blue orb floated lazily in front of her, and she grabbed it, a grin lighting up her face until she realized whom it was from. How fitting. I’m sure he’s very pleased, she thought to herself, considering the blight with a scowl. Unpleasant memories of fierce competition with her uncle flooded her mind, but she quickly pushed the thoughts away.

“What to do,” she mumbled, considering. Looking around her, she considered throwing the blight at Ember (receiving a stern ‘no’ from G)…it was then that she thought of MOQ. She had wings and was rather agile. Surely a delay from a blight wouldn’t hinder her too much, right? Had she seen her trailing behind? There was no time for further contemplation. Throwing the azure orb carrying Poseidon’s blight back to where she had thought she had seen MOQ, Athena continued forward. A 10 second delay wouldn’t be too bad—she hoped.

"Great," the woman in the red jacket muttered as she stepped up to the line. "So we're playing Mario Kart. Pick up the shards and hope you get the blue turtle shell."

The buzzer went off and she kicked off with it, but while her speed was impressive, it was also human, a limit many of the others here didn't possess. But it didn't matter. A yellow sphere came within reach of her and she snagged it, jumping across another runner's shoulders to do so before jumping back into her lane. A moment later, she knew she regretted it. It was one of the blights. That didn't matter, though, there had to be some way she could use it. She slipped her hand into one pocket. Dare she try something like that?

No, she decided. She wouldn't cheat so blatantly. Honor meant more than winning a foot race to her, regardless of what it meant to these pompous intruders.

* * *

The well-dressed man in the pince-nez lenses had no such compunctions about honor. He, too, took a running stance on the side for the Poseidon Team, and crouched down ready. But bolts of lightning began to flash across his body as the light counted down, and his grin widened. And then, when the alarm to start sounded ... he simply vanished in a flash of dark red energy that looped the track in an instant before he jogged up to the finish line. If there were any rules against using powers, well, the gods were going to have to remember to specify that next time.

"Oh, and Madam Hera," he addressed her after stepping across the line like a cocky rooster, "I caught a boon, I'd rather like to cash it in." He held up one of the spheres, then got a thoughtful look on his face as he surveyed the runners, then pointed to Darkblade. "Him. I want you to kill him."

Re: [IC] The RPC Olympics

Post by Hades [Forge] » Tue Jul 24, 2018 7:08 pm

Hades stood a step removed from the gaggle of contenders that had been placed under Team Zeus, rolling his neck and shoulders in an idle, exploratory sort of manner. Like a new mount, the god was aware that his host's body was built for more than idle standing around, and he was looking forward to stretching the swordsman's muscles properly. Years of training had gone into this one; it was a sort of dedication to purpose that the God of the Dead could appreciate, even if it was ultimately a mortal sort of dedication. Hades watched the Zeus competitors mutter half-formed strategies and suggestions as they assembled on the starting line, and felt an faint flicker of satisfaction at the sight. No pointless rebellion, no posturing, no trembling in fear - just calm preparation and an acceptance of their duty. They might become worthy competitors yet.

With a final stretch the God of the Dead took his place at the line, stooping into a sprinter's crouch and listening to the instructions that they had prepared boom out over the assembled competitors. He tensed faintly as light flooded into the orbs, rising until his fingertips grazed the stone beneath him when the amber sphere blossemed to life. As the green orb kindled Hades erupted into movement, pushing off with one foot and breaking into a sprint that sent him hurtling forward. It felt good. His host lacked the unnatural speed that some of the empowered mortals possessed, but there was pleasure to be had in turning hours of dedicated practice into something useful. The god stooped, snatching an orb from its position near the floor without breaking stride, and allowed himself the faintest moment of satisfaction. Had he been born in another age, this one might even have earned a place in history as one of their chosen. Not Hades of course, but one of his relatives for certain.

As if on cue his nephew hurtled past, still caged within his diminutive vessel and screaming in an entirely undignified manner as he rode atop his intended host. Hades curled a lip, sparing the God of War only a moment's glance. Ares had long been among their most brash and outspoken, and ending up housed within the dwarf had done him no favours. The larger mortal was a different sort, and as Darkblade shot him a look and unleashed Dionysus' Blight without hesitation, the God of Death reflected on what a shame it was that his nephew had missed his intended target.

The ground ahead of him erupted, spewing forth a multitude of bizzarely-dressed dwarves that seemed to share some familial link to Ares' vessel. In response, the Boon that Hades had retrieved gave a pulse and began to shift, fragmented light restructuring itself into Athena's Aegis.
"Thank you, niece," the God of Death muttered, before continuing his headlong sprint into the diminutive baying mob. Where the dwarves met the aegis they shattered, coming apart like broken glass and breaking into progressively smaller shards until they had ceased to exist at all. Hades paid them no mind, cutting through them as a ship parts the waves and emerging on the other side unscathed. In the wake of the defence, the aegis gave a final flicker before fading from view.

As Team Zeus split apart to take their positions on the starting line, Magnan already knew he wasn’t going to be much help in this competition. He was slow, and by the way this cobbled stone beneath him shook as he stepped forward he wasn’t entirely sure it would even hold up under his weight, if he put any more on it. That said, however, he would do what he did best. Try. And while he knew he wasn’t the one who was going to win this, a quick glance towards the person to his side gave him an idea.

As the orb turned green and the words ‘Go!’ resounded throughout this... twisted realm, the Titan of steel and bone burst forth as fast as he could go. The ground shook beneath his long and powerful strides, and he covered far more ground than he thought he would in the initial seconds. But even considering that, he knew he was outclassed as he watched his smaller comrades and rivals all but blur past him, racing along. That was, until he touched the orb.

He didn’t know who Hermes was, or what he represented, but Magnan thanked him nonetheless as he found himself inexplicably moving faster. Putting his shield in front of him like a battering ram, he glanced to his side and enacted the plan. His arm snapped out, powered by his boon, and pulled MOQ in as soon as he caught up to her.

His massive hand was easily large enough to wrap itself over the tiny female’s waist, pulling her behind his shield as he put everything he had into charging forward, counting down within his mind. He knew instinctively he only had around eight seconds remaining, and for the plan to work to maximum efficiency he couldn’t waste a single one.

Rocketing forward like the multiverse’s most dangerous carnival ride, he poured everything he had into this new speed for seven seconds. At the final second remaining, he smoothly withdrew MOQ, reached his arm back, looked in the direction of the finish line and...

Threw her.

The corresponding thunderclap of sound as he put all of his effort into the action shook his body as he hurled the flying alien away from him, the full force of his strength propelling her through the sky. He felt his body come down from the blessing the moment she left his grasp, and once again turned to simply just focusing on the race. Up to her and the others now.
The past doesn’t define who you are.
It just... gives you the starting point for who you’re going to be. -Carolina, RvB

Lester never liked the static portals. Much unlike the safe coil of instant transition to the Library, walking through the portal made him feel uneasy, feeling every nanosecond of his essence being pulled apart, sent from one place to another and then reconstructed as he stepped out. He had to admit, though, that the view was worth the unpleasant trip. The Librarian stood in awe, wondering how none of his books treated about this astonishing place. He was so mesmerised by the view, the "go" caught him off guard. Seeing other Collective members rushing towards the finish line, he cursed under his breath and hastily joined the race.
As Lester approached one of the glowing orbs, words filled his mind, clouding his vision for a split second. In another second they all formed into a description of a boon of some kind:

Boon of Hera
The queen of the gods grants you one favour of her choice.
“The queen of the gods looks kindly on those who have earned her favour, and bestows her gifts accordingly.”

As soon as the words vanished, the Librarian heard a voice of Hera in his mind: "For 10 seconds I give you the ability to fly above the heads of those scrambling about." Then happened something Lester was hoping never to experience again. He rose above the ground. The Librarian had only once used a levitation spell- and it was not a very pleasant experience. This, however, felt… Different. Unlike with the spell, he had control over the flight, instinctively knowing how to steer his body. Wasting no time (10 seconds is, after all, a very short amount), he threw himself above the contestants’ heads, focusing on the finish line. Hopefully it will be enough to land a decent place in this curious race.

Omega L steps into the scene, preparing for the sign to move. And then, there goes the 'Go' which immediately triggers him to rush around the track, using his wings to give some additional tailwind to further boost his speed. He notices what appears to be a circular collectible, which results to him forcing contact with the ball by doing a mid-air axe-kick, which coincidentally leads to punishment.

He immediately lands unto the ground, apparently being weighed down by some unknown force. He proceeds to take several slowed down steps for three seconds, realizing that using his legs and wings does not appears to help, forcing him to watch few of the contestants move past him. Now, he has no other choice but to just blast himself with his powers to force locomotion.

Nice idea Omega, he just summoned an explosive ball of energy and flung it to an area close to him, making sure that he and the track are not damaged in the process. The explosive force of the ball he summoned causes him to be sent flying at a rapid speed, with him then twisting his body and using his wings to shift his velocity to turn the corner... Four extra seconds consumed. He landed pretty roughly at the track.

Three more seconds are expended on surrounding himself in an aura of healing, and now he feels that the weight increase is gone, enabling him to do the usual dashing like nothing happened. Looks like he by passed someone.

Dionysus had spent most of his time drinking, eating, and talking with his new team, occasionally making a few of them sing songs from their worlds as any good god should. Once the announcement was made that the sprint was about to begin Dionysus was a bit ticked off, he wanted to keep talking and drinking, but as one of the leaders of team Poseidon he knew he had to participate or else Hera would never let him hear the end of it. The god of madness casually strolled up to the starting area, inspecting both the men and women as they stretched their muscles, grunting and moaning.

“Delectable,” Dionysus said out loud to no one in particular, taking his place right at the starting line.

Dionysus had no reason to stretch, with both his and Rick’s power, he was ready to shoot off at incredible speeds. Everyone got into starting positions but Dionysus stood, arms crossed, a bored look on his face. Sure, Dionysus liked a good competition, but most of these mortals wouldn’t prove a challenge, and the rest of the gods were so full of themselves that it took all the fun from the competition. He knew they would look down on some light and friendly cheating, which was Dionysus’ style. The light turned red and the race started, Dionysus’ muscles contracted and he shot forward with dizzying speed. Things were going smoothly until he hit first colored orb. The blight of Hephaestus, how typical, Hera probably put it in front of him just to annoy him. A competitor would be protected against an attack, which, all things considered, wasn’t all that bad. These mortals would need all the help they could get.

Scribe was running beside him when he ran into an orb. It was one of his, Dionysus could feel it. The boon crackled and sparked as energy shot at Dionysus, giving him a speed boost as his legs moved faster than before. Dionysus cackled, this was working out excellently, but then Ares and that damned human it rode on fired off a giant wall of dwarves directly in front of him. He was going too fast, he would crash into them and it would slow him down, there was nothing he could do…except nothing happened. It was almost as if a force field radiated around him, easily allowing him to smash through the wall of dwarves and continue on his way. Dionysus smiled and pushed himself harder, making sure he used every bit of his momentary speed.

Round 1 Ends

The chaos was about as delicious as both your mighty Game Master and your Gods hoped and intended.

Darkblade, an army of chibis erupting behind him with the express purpose of intercepting both Forge and Rick continued with the race at his usual pace, unimpeded by anyone else but also lacking the benefits of speed gifted to some of the others. Forge aided by his own boon and Rick by the gift of Lumeus' unexpected protection, smash through the chibis like they're nothing and are both close on his heels. Rick, his burst of speed still in tact, draws level with Darkblade and then overtakes him.

Lumeus, meanwhile, walking like a cool kid, slips further and further behind.

Alex, having stolen Brooke's boon, runs on, his spindly legs doing their best but not quite helping him to keep up with the best of them just yet.

Ember runs like she's never run before, focusing on her own breath and the pounding of the track beneath her legs and trying her best not to get caught up in any of the chaos.

Similarly, Adri just runs. Fast enough to keep herself in the mix.

Nay, having witnessed Mag picking up MOQ and running past with her at some considerable speed, senses a plot afoot and directs her boon at the pop princess. Though it removes MOQ's immunity to any harm that may befall her, it does not stop Mag from taking a considerable run up and then launching her in the air. She soars high above the rest of the group below, gaining more and more ground by the second until Athena's blight collided with her alien form in midair, dropping MOQ like a bug caught in an electrified trap. Mag, his early speed boost extinguished, slowly begins to slip further behind as lighter combatants start to close the gap and then overtake him.

Scribe, aided by his boon and by his abilities, begins to break off with the leaders, putting a little bit of distance between himself and the group behind.

With an astonishing start and the gift of flight, Lester gets off to an astonishing start. Being air bound allows him to avoid all of the clashes below and, free of any impairment cast his way, he is just on the cusp of overtaking MOQ when she is knocked from the sky.

Omega L with an unfortunate early and debilitating blight, is scarcely off the finish line but as the ill effects wear off, puts on a burst of speed in the hope of collecting an orb that might help him catch up with the others.

Last but not least (but certainly last), Darius teleports to the finish line, makes his request to Hera and is, at first, met with a stony wall of silence until the Goddess materialises before him, regarding him with an measuring gaze. Hera scoffs, clearly finding him wanting and, with a wave of her hand, not only sends him back to the starting line but enforces upon him a five second delay wherein he is unable to lift his feet from the floor.
"First, you dishonor the games by cheating and then you ask a favour of me in such terms? Like I am a hunting dog to be pointed as you wish?" The disembodied voice drips with something that is colder and more dangerous than mere anger. "You will have something from me this games, mortal but it shall not be my favour."

So Far...

The spaces indicate different groupings.

1. Lester - just snuck out in front.
2. MOQ - second place but has just been knocked out of the sky. At least 5 seconds recovery time required.

3. Scribe, Rick/Dionysus and Twist - those speedbosts are helpful, right?

4. Darkblade is only fractionally ahead of the rest of the main pack.
5. Forge/Hades, Nay, G/Athena, Brooke, Adri - All more or less neck and neck at this point.
6. Green is still in there with the pack but slowly starting to drop back now, his sheer bulk weighing him down. Alex is trying hard but just not quite fast enough on those spindly legs.

7. Lumeus, walking like the coolest of kids.
8. Omega L, that blight really hurt you, huh?
9. Darius, bringing up the rear. Begins the second round at a five second disadvantage.

Getting rid of her boon quickly had given Ember a few paces free of distractions. When she glanced ahead, though, she saw that it hadn't exactly done her any favors as she wasn't exactly close to first place. As they ran, she spotted more orbs in the distance; maybe she could get another boon, one that she could keep and use this time.

Blight of Zeus
Boost the speed of one opponent for 10 seconds
"Zeus grants you a bolt of lightning - but lightning is as mercurial as the king of the gods himself, and not all thunderbolts hit their intended target."

The interdimensional lawyer frowned as she realized she had received a blight, and from the very god that she was supposed to be representing. How fickle of him. Ember stuck with her previous strategy, not bothering to put too much time into figuring out who the orb should go to, instead focusing on running and tossing the thing away as soon as possible so that her focus could be spent on one thing. Nay was the competitor closest to her, and as painful as it was to help an opponent, she tossed the orb to her competitor. It was better than gifting someone with godlike physique an extra boost.

As she ran, Ember spotted Athena near her, too. She spared the goddess a glare, before facing forward and attempting to push herself further forward.

Hades continued onward, ignoring the runners around him and keeping a steady eye on those in front. Progress overall seemed to be mixed; most were trying, some were not; one had been punished for a dismal performance wherein he had used his gifts to circumvent the track, which was fitting; the god had even seen one of Zeus' competitors hurled overhead like a javelin. It was all pleasingly unorthodox, and a part of the God of the Dead wished he'd opted to watch from the sidelines alongside Hera. Alas, here he was, soaking in the burn of his vessel's muscles as he pelted along the track. There was nothing for it now but to continue.

Stooping, Hades snatched up another orb. This one crackled and spat, shifting into one of his brother's lightning bolts - a blessing, then, but one with conditions. Every time the god angled the bolt toward one of his teammates it pulled aside, drawn instinctively to members of Team Poseidon instead. Hades frowned, and the bolt in his fist coiled and spat like a malicious serpent. Zeus' Blight, then.
"Very well." Lifting his head, the God of the Dead cast around for the best place to deposit the boost he would be forced to grant his opponents. The front runners were out, as were those alongside him. Darius, however, was firmly planted in the direction they'd come from, and would suffer a penalty from Hera for his failure to entertain. It was as good a choice as any. With a graceful pivot the God of the Dead spun, releasing the lightning bolt in an overhead arc that carried it above the rearmost runners, coming down in a perfect curve to crash against Darius' chest and set him swaying, although his feet looked to be firmly fixed in place. Hades grunted in satisfaction, turning and resuming his sprint.

Alexander's legs were aching slightly, and he was breathing harder from the exertion. Despite that, he did his best to keep moving. Another set of orbs ahead made him push himself a bit harder. He grinned when he grabbed it and felt its power coursing through his veins, but came close to tears upon seeing it was another blight.
The orb disappeared, and the birdman automatically began moving towards an opposing team member, specifically Twister. He wrapped his thin arms around the man and tried to hold him protectively. He still tried to run, but the added weight was making it difficult.
