[IC - Tavern] The Sanctum

Post by The Game Master » Wed Mar 23, 2016 7:32 am

You find yourself in the nucleus of the expansive Collective Ark, a place known as The Sanctum. A large, open space adaptable in size, shape and style dependent on the whims of its occupants. This is the central gathering point for members of the Collective and any favoured allies that have been permitted access to our headquarters. This is both the brain and heart of the Ark. A place where members can gather, socialise, scheme and plan any number of adventures or quests across the greater Multiverse. The outer rim of this space is littered with doors leading to long corridors which are, in turn, littered with doors leading to a huge multitudes of realms and pocket realms (staff-offices and individual member-rooms among them) linking the Ark and the Collective with the furthest reaches of the Multiverse.
The aim of this solely IC thread is for everyone to have the opportunity to take their Personas for a spin on a daily basis, to develop relationships (be they friendships, intense love stories or fierce rivalries) among characters and to act as a spring-board for a multitude of different RPs across the expansive Multiverse. Please make sure you cast your eye over the description of The Sanctum at the start of each new day (you can use the links below) as the appearance of the space and the extent to which your characters can manipulate it will vary as time goes on and as our characters begin to learn more about the Ark they currently call home.

Please note that posts must be written in standard prose in an RP format (so no actions between asterix' or anything like that) but can be as short and snappy as you like. The staff have given you some examples below. If you have any questions, you can ask them in the OOC thread.

"We've run extensive tests and apart from that one Filth-getting-blown-up incident, we're almost entirely sure that this place is completely safe," Sammy smiled brightly at the other members of the Ark leadership "And lets be honest, what potentially quasi-sentient vessel wouldn't want to hurt Filth from time to time? Really, what we should be asking is why it only happened the once." She eyed Filth for a moment before seemingly remembering that she'd been in the middle of a speech. "What I'm trying to say is that yes, this room is weird and unpredictable and, well, inexplicable but we think it's probably pretty much just as safe as the rest of the Ark. So! Can we throw open the doors?"

“Too soon, Sammy,” Filth said with mock offense while pointing the stump of his left arm--that now ended just above his elbow--in her direction. When it seemed no concern was given he fell backwards and, the Ark sensing his want, manifested a large high-backed chair in time to catch him. “No need to salt the wound."

"That said, I'm just the lab rat. Seems ready enough, though.”

Forge glanced up in between making a ratty-looking deck chair appear and disappear with small furrows of his brow. The trick was simple, once you picked up the knack for it.
"Bearing in mind that we're in an indeterminately-sized space of unclear origins that refuses to follow the normal rules of physics? Yeah, you could say it's ready."

“Quit fishing for sympathy and regenerate your arm already,” Gideon said as she finished her wandering, but careful, inspection of the room and joined Filth on his chair. It stretched wider as she approached to accommodate a second occupant.

"I agree though. I believe it’s time we open the gateways and call our members to their new home. I wouldn't mind if you guys kept proding at what this is capable of though,” she said, kicking her legs up onto Filth's lap. "I'd hate for the room to decide we are getting bored and fat and rip open a portal to another plane and let in a plague or a horde of beasties or some such."

"How would that be any different than normal?" Wolf asked. She was leaning nonchalantly against a wall. It had manifested as she'd been thinking about a space to do just that on. "Seems like no matter what we do, we tend to get hit with such things." She didn't look at Filth, though he'd been responsible for some of that himself. She straightened and the wall disappeared. Momentarily distracted, she looked at it, a bit bemused. This would take a little getting used to.

“Like we can claim any notion to hold to the normal rules of physics, I find them at best to be suggestions around these parts.”

Darkblade shrugged, how long he’d been there or not was anyone’s guess. He’d give a certain smirking cat a run for it’s money, or maybe the one that gets locked in a box? He wasn’t exactly sure which one would suit him best, but there he was.. sorta.. maybe? Well there was something that certainly was there, and partially the reason he was kinda there.

"She has a point." His default vocal patterns were synthesized, though not emotionless. "Besides," his tone was painted with what humor he could muster, "plagues are usually more concerned with organics. Either way, I think it's safe enough to rummage around it." Despite his words, his onboard sensors were constantly indicating some scientific-mumbo-jumbo about physical laws, and INSUFFICIENT DATA.

Given his own shifting form, Cross had picked up the room's manifestation techniques rather well. He willed a smooth, futuristic pod into existence, and took his seat.

Gideon shifted a little in her seat, digging her heels into Filth's leg as she tried to get comfortable. She ended up giving up and stood instead. "Right, shall we open it then? I'm suddenly feeling very eager to pack the members in here and see what happens."

"I think it's about time," Sammy chuckled softly to herself as, though responding to their conversation, a bright red ribbon appeared across the centre of the room and a large pair of scissors materialised on the seat of the throne "I think you ought to do the honors, Gids."

Gideon stood up from the throne, collecting the scissors on the way and approaching the ribbon. She looked around at her fellow Staff members and smiled. "Well, here we are. You three," she gestured to Filth, Forge and Sammy. "You three have been working within this room for some time now, ensure that its safe and secure and you have done a wonderful job. Explosions and dismemberment aside," she said, shooting a wink at Filth. "So, I hereby officially declare the Sanctum open!" She lined up the scissors and with a quick snip, the ribbon fluttered to the floor.

It was a weird sensation. Atreus wasn't sure how he got in, or why, and where exactly was in. It was a pleasant enough room, certainly, but it all seemed quite strange from his vantage point. He looked back at the stairs he had walked up and couldn't find the exact spot the corridor entered this space. Some quasi-dimensional portal or somesuch. Sciencs wasn't his strong suit. He shrugged and took another step into the strange upside down and was quite surprised when he lost contact with the floor and fell to the ceiling. Well, honestly, it only took a second to recalibrate his perception, but it didn't stop him dropping on his head.

'Shite,' he cursed, rubbing his bruised head and looking around. He crawled over towards where Sammy sat down. 'That was unexpected. I thought I was going to the studio. What this place, then?' he asked her, still rubbing his top. He already felt the bump coming up.

Ink bled down from the peak of one wall, slowly shifting and spiraling from a long globule into a mass of minuscule squiggles which in turn became words, which shifted and formed themselves into a grand archway and read as follows;
Ink bled down from the peak of one wall, slowly shifting and spiraling from a long globule into a mass of minuscule squiggles which in turn became words, which shifted and formed themselves into a grand archway which slowly solidified into ink-stained wood and metal. Where the words seeped into the wall a doorway formed, and the door opened to reveal a lone figure; a man of dark hair, tired eyes, and ink-stained fingers. A man who stepped through the passage with a soft smile playing about his lips with no sound other then that of a pen scratching along parchment, and as the writing stopped the door became fluid once more, the ink spilling off of the wall and onto the page and leaving behind no sign of it's passing. So it was written, and so it occurred, the man carefully tucking both pen and parchment into varying pockets of his long green-tinted coat.

"...Hello." He said simply, peering about.

"Can anyone tell me... did anyone happen to see me roaming about in here?" Glancing about the indefinite space he blinked and shook his head slightly, deciding he'd likely done things properly this time.

"Nevermind, doesn't look as though I'm here yet, meaning this must be the beginning of the story. Love the whole Infinitesimal reality motif you have going on here. It'll save me quite a bit of writing."

Looking around he noticed an individual asking for his current whereabouts and rolled his eyes.

"What's wrong, friend, can't read? This is the Sanctum." For emphasis he pointed straight upwards, and then blinked, and finally frowned as he noticed the sign he'd been sure was there wasn't.

So noting he made a gesture and the room provided a sign in the appropriate place, which in turn answered his earlier question to himself, or rather later question, of why there would be a sign in that particular location.

Just as ink fell from the walls, flames were seen erupting from the ceiling. Well, around a certain spot at least. They formed into the shape of an oval, which was the universal shape for portals and doorways, and dropped a figure onto a table. The said figure was a young woman, with fierce red eyes and a smile that could make a grown man fall over, Sallos sat up from her crash site, which was quickly disappearing due to the properties of the Sanctum. As she stood and plucked a chair out of thin air, no one questioned why there was even a table there in the first place.

"Well, this is certainly a nice place." Sallos said, sitting in the chair. "Can't say it's the best place to be in though. Looking at Filth, it definitely isn't perfect."

Sammy glanced up from her book as each member of the Collective materialized, giving each a smile and a wave while trying to keep any anxiety from her face. Sure, they thought it was safe enough but how much did they really know about this place? Or the Ark at all, really?
AtreusCore wrote:'Shite,' he cursed, rubbing his bruised head and looking around. He crawled over towards where Sammy sat down. 'That was unexpected. I thought I was going to the studio. What this place, then?' he asked her, still rubbing his top. He already felt the bump coming up.
"This, my friend, is The Sanctum. Or, at least, that's what we feel as though we should call it," she smiled, faintly. None of them had decided that's what it was called, they'd simply known. "We know it's part of the Ark. The heart of the Ark, we believe, in a way. People certainly seem to find their way here when their looking for company. We'd have unveiled it sooner but... Gids thought it wise that we run some tests on it. Safety first, y'know."

Filth's seat, currently shaped like a pair of cupped female hands filled with violet cushions, just sort of hovered in the air a few feet off the ground. It swayed gently in the air as though afloat on some invisible sea and tipped as he shifted to give the newcomers a vague gesture of greeting. Distracted by his attempts to perfect the properties of his chair, it seemed to be taking up a great deal of his effort to focus.

"Might not be perfect, Sall, but I drastically improve any place, situation, or flavor. It's scientifically proven," he said and the chair dropped with a thud to the floor before rising back into the air, "so it's got that going for it."

"Heart is a good analogy for it, miss... if you go by the popularized properties rather than the actual ones. Though; the way this place is constructed reminds me more of a nervous system. It's hyper-reactive, seems to be stretched across everywhere at once, and could..." He paused, considering his words for a moment and realizing that openly stating that such a place could theoretically have a bad reaction and potentially slaughter everyone inside was not the best option, especially seeing as he didn't know whether the flexible reality of the space was tied to some form of consciousness or not, which could in turn have a bad reaction to him calling it potentially murderous and... well, murder.

"Prove tough to manage with all the entities you'll eventually have here." He didn't know many of them, but there had certainly been more the other times he'd popped in, or rather; the other times he would pop in. That was the problem with stumbling into the middle of a story; tenses became tricky.

Turning at the sound of a nearby voice the man's soft brown eyes flickered vibrant viridian for a moment as they settled over the being regarded as Filth, and a pause of thoughtful silence enveloped him,

"Hey; I think I recognize you... didn't you once drag me to a far quarter of space to fight robots? Or aliens... or robot aliens? I remember being shot a lot, and breaking things, and something about a potential rift in space or fate or reality... Did we cause that or stop it?" A frown crossed the Scribe's features as his recollection grew hazy.

"Strange. Usually it takes longer for my memories to be this jumbled, but I can't recall the end of the story."

"Yeah. They were your standard aliens evolved to entirely robotic lifeform while existing outside of time and space. We created a paradox by combining an object that exists across all time at once into the core of their homeworld that generates the whole outside time thing. Like a seventy to thirty percent chance it could have unmade reality or something but just sort of collapsed their reality in on itself, erasing them from existence entirely," he said in a casual tone while adjusting the Hands Chair to a bigger size with more cushion. He laughed suddenly, "the Paramour said it was entirely reckless and the stupidest thing I've ever done."

Apparently satisfied with the Hands Chair, he settled into it, still laughing he continued, "they said there would be unpredictable effects throughout every realm in the multiverse they've ever been involved with. Probably why we're having trouble remembering most of it.

"Kinda like we went on an adventure and suddenly stopped midway through."

"Aah; well, if they don't and didn't exist having been removed from existence then the adventure didn't happen, and exists only as a rough draft or proof of concept, which would explain it cutting off in the middle." The Scribe scratched thoughtfully at his chin and sat down, a rolling chair emerging from the Sanctum to meet him at the appropriate height.

"And should that be the case we could find ourselves nestled in a sort of a temporal fold wherein having been a part of it we recall them to an extent, but the validity of that series of events and our action therein is validated only by our own conscious efforts to recall it, which considering my own less than stellar track record with event recollection and the malleable nature of my mind would in turn explain the advanced decay of memory surrounding things." He nodded along receptively, seemingly pleased with Filth's description and his own understanding thereof.

"That's quite clarifying, thank you."

'Well, that's sort of interesting but something tells me that this place is more like the lowest point in a river where everything kinda gets pulled to by gravity. Certainly had me falling in.' Atreus undid his ponytail and redid it with his rubberband, pulling it tighter. He looked around to take in the room. It seemed both finite, in the way that everything must surely end, and infinite, in the way that everything seemed unless you could both its ends at once. It didn't entirely change as he looked at it, but nor did it stay the same. Weird magic, this, he thought and tose to his feet.

'So who really found this place in the first place, huh?' he asked. 'And who by chance might you be?' he asked the one who had answered him.
