Nicodemus - Art

Post by Nicodemus » Fri Jul 28, 2017 2:50 pm

Custom Art by Request
Hey, everyone. I'm Nico and this is my art page. I'm getting practice in by doing characters or environments for fellow members. You can scroll through the thread to find the characters I've done, but I'm all for going outside of my comfort zone. You can even ask for a certain art style and I'll do my best. There's no commission or deadlines, but turnover is usually a few days to a couple weeks. Just post here or PM me. Any newcomers to the site are welcome to request, even if you don't know me.

Digital Paintings
So here is me learning to paint. All done in GIMP and with a MOUSE, no drawing pad. So be gentle. Edit: A few new ones with a tablet.

Looks like the photobucket hosting changes have hit you, too, mate. Can't view anything.

These are absolutely incredible. Can't comprehend how you could do that with a mouse!

Thanks, guys. In all honesty, the one with the ship has a texture layer for some of the cliff detail. But otherwise, yeah, all are from scratch.

You're seriously talented. Do you do any portrait style stuff or just landscapes?

Sadly, the mouse limits me to impressionism with the landscapes and makes portraits very difficult. Even in loose portrait renderings, you need a lot of control around the facial features, eyes especially. I've been thinking about getting a drawing pad for PC, just haven't done it.

I do pencil drawings and yes, can do portraits. I'll try to post some later.

Edit: Added a link in the first post to my photostream, including portraits and other stuff from my sketchbook.

I absolutely love the bear and the wolf. Have you ever designed tattoos for anyone?

I think once someone did ask me for a tatoo idea, and I went through a tribal graphic phase. I designed a honey label once for a whopping 20 dollar comission.

"Please be gentle," he says, while being more talented with a mouse than most folk are with actual materials. Amazing work, buddy. Seriously incredible stuff.

Thank you guys so much, really. Went through my old folder and scanned some of my favorites in the first post.

Is it weird to really dig that tree the most?

Solid paintings. Not sure how long each took you, but if you can produce that level of quality with a quick turn around you could make a career of it.

The line work and perspective on your sketches is also nice. My only critique is that I would like to see more contrast in the shading.

Okay, Sammy asked about portrait paintings and I decided to give it another shot. I remembered when I started drawing I liked fantasy/sci-fi creatures because they're easier than humans (no anatomy restrictions to screw up). I'm glad I did, as this is far from the train wreck it was last time.

Image

It's a start, but I need more practice, so I'm offering to do this for anyone who thinks it's good enough for a character sheet, persona, or you just want to see what I do with an idea.

A few things -
Until I get better, human characters will probably suffer the most.
I don't know what kind of response I'll get on this, so I guess I'm going first-come-first-serve for a while.
This will be a learning process for me, so you don't have to use it anywhere. I just need the practice.

I'm really liking your multi-chinned alien so I would definitely be up for that!

Do you have a template or anything you'd like us to fill out?
